I just spent the last couple of hours going up and down my 2 flights of steps with boxes 😝, my back needs a break and some reading time before my actual #bookfitnesschallenge workout! Spending some time with The Last Time I Saw You and the PGA golf match! #bfc

@wanderinglynn

New post up on @bookriot today about a book that freaked me out when I was a kid. Anyone else have a book from childhood that still haunts you?

https://bookriot.com/2018/02/26/childhood-book-that-scarred-me-for-life/

TommieMarie74 Great post!! I have a book like that, way above my grade level, that scarred me. I don‘t know what it‘s called and I have never been able to find it via internet. Like you, I‘ve thought that rereading it as an adult would help dissipate those demons. Hopefully someday I‘ll get the chance. (edited) 7y
FeastOfFiction I cant think of a book that scarred me but the movie Never Ending Story has always made me HATE fantasy. That movie creeped me out and I refuse to ever watch it. I think that‘s why I don‘t like the fantasy genre. Confession: I‘m an English teacher who‘s never read Harry Potter. 7y
LiteraryinPA @FeastOfFiction Wow, I had that same movie fear as a kid! I used to hate rainy days because the summer day camp I went to would show us a movie if we couldn‘t swim/play outside. One of their limited selection was Neverending Story. I would get soooo scared! 7y

HeatherBookNerd @TommieMarie74 @FeastOfFiction @LiteraryinLititz I think every longtime reader has a childhood book or two that had a lasting impact. Scary ones and happy ones. 7y
CSeydel Offhand, I don‘t recall one from my own childhood, but my 16-year-old son still runs screaming from the room if anyone mentions 7y
HeatherBookNerd @CSeydel I never though about Phantom Tollbooth being a scary book. 7y
CSeydel It‘s not. He just found it very disturbing. Not scary in the sense of horror, but more ... intellectually disturbing, if that makes sense? He would lie awake at night worrying about things like the concept of infinity. He was maybe about 9 or 10 at the time. 7y
HeatherBookNerd @CSeydel ah, you‘ve just a bright, busy thinker for a son. I totally get that! 7y

Just finished House of Stairs for a reading challenge for a book you loved as a child. What does it say about me that I loved a psychologically messed up book as a kid? Interestingly enough it still holds up today.

BooksTeasAndBookishThings Welcome to Litsy!!! 😊❤🙌🎉📚 8y

I do not like scary books. I have no stomach for horror or anything too creepy. I read House of Stairs in elementary school and I remember being really disturbed by it. And the cover freaks me out still. #scarybook #somethingforsept @RealLifeReading

BarbaraJean Wow, I remember reading this one as a kid! It freaked me out enough that I hid it under my bed. Then I couldn't find it when it was due back at the library! 8y
