Coconut Layer Cake Murder
Coconut Layer Cake Murder | Joanne Fluke
6 posts | 9 read | 6 to read
Bakery owner Hannah Swensen is leaving Lake Eden to help a friend in sunny California. But an unexpected phone call swiftly brings her back to a cold Minnesota winter . . . and murder . . . When Hannah learns that her sister Michelle’s boyfriend, Detective Lonnie Murphy, is the prime suspect in a murder case, she goes straight from a movie studio sound stage to the Los Angeles airport. Back in frigid Minnesota, she discovers that proving Lonnie’s innocence will be harder than figuring out what went wrong with a recipe. Lonnie remembers only parts of the night he went out to a local bar and ended up driving a very impaired woman home. He knows he helped her to her bedroom, but he doesn’t recall anything else until he woke up on her couch the following morning. When he went to the bedroom to check on her, he was shocked to discover she was dead. Hannah doesn’t know what to believe—only that exonerating a suspect who can’t remember is almost impossible, especially since Lonnie’s brother, Detective Rick Murphy, and Lonnie’s partner, Chief Detective Mike Kingston, have been taken off the case. Before everything comes crashing down on Lonnie like a heaping slice of coconut layer cake, it’ll be up to Hannah to rack up enough clues to toast a flaky killer . . .

Oh Hannah...you deserve so much better. You deserve an author who actually cares that you grow & make good choices, who doesn't leave you stranded in a love triangle for 26 books, for your life to revolve around more than just a recipe. Unfortunately, your author gives you nothing that you deserve. These were once a nice, easy, and enjoyable way to pass the time. Now? With all there is in the world to read, don't waste your time or money on this.

This book was just out this past week, I received a ARC in exchange for a review. At the end of the last book we learned that Hannah suspects she may be pregnant with Ross's child. After Ross's duplicity and subsequent death, could this be a burden or a blessing in disguise? We learn the answer in this book but then, this book comes with a lot more questions as Lonnie, a local policeman & her sister's boyfriend, is a suspect in (more in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy is a suspect in a puzzling murder.Departmental complications due to one of their own being a suspect and limited numbers of officers, Hannah is called in to help out and of course Hannah figures it out although not without putting herself in way of danger if only briefly. in the prologue, Hannah has an interesting dream which leaves us yet again questioning her future. Is Norman possibly back in the picture? 5y
