The daughter of a respected horse healer, 14-year-old Amy has a powerful connection with horses. With her mother's help, she is developing her skills as a horse whisperer while tending to the animals at Heartland, a refuge for horses that have been emotionally or physically traumatized. But when her mother is killed in a tragic trailer accident, Amy realizes she will never see her world the same way again.

#WonderousWednesday

1. The tagged book was one of them. Definitely one I remember getting me on the reading craze!

2. One that popped into mind was Mom doing my hair for the ninth grade dance; I looked and felt amazing!

3. This past Friday at the 21+ zoo event where I walked through the “haunted” pirate trail! 🏴‍☠️

What is it about horse books that kids love so much? On Episode 90 of my podcast, we discuss this question and take a close look at one horse book, in particular — the first title in Lauren Brooke‘s Heartland series, Coming Home. My guest and I talk about how the book portrays trauma, grief, family dynamics, and the life of the horse girl. 🐴 Link to listen in bio!

1. Harry Potter... I think...
2. Heartland. It was back when I was in middle school, and I got irritated when I felt the series wasn‘t focusing enough on the horses. 😂
3. Shelve it
4. No, I‘m not social enough for that. 😬😂

The whole Heartland series is a coming of age story for Amy, especially after her mother's death. 🐴 and healing can be found at the Heartland horse sanctuary.

Check out the CBC Heartland TV series. For the first five or so seasons they focused on horse and owner cases, as the books do, then it got into the characters personal lives a little more.

For on what I can recall, the Heartland series takes place in a small town. One of my favorite children lit horse series!!#photoadaynov16
