13 posts | 19 read | 14 to read
What could be more commonplace than grass, or a world covered over all its surface with a wind-whipped ocean of grass? But the planet Grass conceals horrifying secrets within its endless pastures. And as an incurable plague attacks all inhabited planets but this one, the prairie-like Grass begins to reveal these secrets -- and nothing will ever be the same again . . .

This was really slow to start but I did enjoy it once it got cooking. I found Marjorie to be the most interesting because she was stuck in a very strict kind of rut and watching her break out of it and become the person she needed to be was interesting. At times certain plot points were obvious but you still wanted to read on to see how everything would play out.

It‘s raining and I have the day off from work so it‘s snuggles with Rolo and a book.

HAPPY #BOOKSPIN DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!

I am excited that only one chonky boi was picked and it was the double spin so I'll hit it later in the month. I've heard amazing things about Grass so really looking forward to diving in. So far leaning into the chonky boi curse seems to be going well because I haven't gotten two thick ones in the same month. (Granted, it's only month two lol.)

Mini #BookHaul from my trip to LA today. We went to The Last Bookstore which has all these really cool bookish decor items, artist studios, and eclectic vibes.

RamsFan1963 Ohhhh those two S.M. Stirling books are really great. 2y
HeyT @RamsFan1963 Yeah I really liked the first one but I did it in digital and it was tough because of the length. At a certain point I like visual confirmation of how far I have left. So I'm excited to get to these. 2y

I wanted to share The Companions by Sheri Tepper but Litsy doesn't have it.
1. My guy is building me new bookshelves in my study to enable my book problem! 😀
2. That the coup attempt in my country yesterday failed.

#bloomingbibliophiles #Grass I was obsessed with finding this book awhile ago, still haven‘t read it .First in a series and published in 1989 .It is described as an ecological mystery , some causes of a planetary downturn linked to social and gender inequality.
Often considered ahead of its time.

This sci-fi classic, with its wild, rangy plot, holds much of what I love about the genre, namely that by flying us far from our world, science fiction brings us closer to the truth. Grass brings Marjorie Yrarier and family to the titular planet Grass, alienated by its esoteric class structure and unfathomable creatures, to find a cure for a human-ending plague and ends up posing answers to questions of environmentalism, morality, and theology.

Grass is a big chunk of science fiction goodness. The novel is named after the planet Grass on which most of the novel takes place. It is set in the far future, where humans have colonized other planets and Earth is ruled by an all-powerful religious organization called Sanctity. The people of Earth and the other inhabited planets are mysteriously dying of plague, but Grass is immune. What is going on?

Highly recommended.

This surreal novel was complex, interesting, disturbing, and I think I liked it but I'm not sure I liked the ending. Marjorie and her family are sent to the planet Grass to see if there is a cure for the plague that threatens humans on every other planet. But Grass is a mystery - who are these people and what are they hiding? Complicated but worth your time.

I just started this book - trying not to be bogged down by the names, hoping the story picks up. I'm about to finish knitting this baby hat.

Beginnings & endings.

#Recommendsday - If you love poignant, amazing, intense science fiction, you must read Sheri S. Tepper! She is definitely my favourite female Scifi/fantasy author and Grass is simply one of her best. The world building and her alien society is exquisite. It's one that I revisit and I'm actually due to re-read soon
