Another book by this trio of authors that I could not put down.A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️read. The authors‘intertwined 3 women connected by birth & a “magical”family tailsman. These women live in different eras that demand different choices of them:1914/WWI; 1942/WWII;1964.Though not necessarily aware of each other, each is haunted by unresolved connections they have to each other. The gorgeous Ritz hotel in Paris is the stage for all 3 women as well.#literarycrew

8. Were you satisfied with how each of the heroine‘s stories unfolded? Would you have changed anything about the way things ended for them? From Reading Guide #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

KristiAhlers I loved how these storylines were intertwined. It would‘ve been too sweet a story for everyone to have the HEA without some heartbreaking events happen as this just life. This is why I love these authors. The HEA‘s are happy and fulfilling and realistic. 2y
CoverToCoverGirl No complaints here. 2y

7. What role does the Hotel Ritz play in each of the heroine‘s stories? From the Reading Guide #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

KristiAhlers For me it seemed like the “stage” on which these various stories were going to be played out. At the very least perhaps the catalyst for each. It became really it‘s own character. 2y
Sargar114 Agreed @KristiAhlers It seems to be where the bulk of the story starts (where aurielle grew up) and ends (where Babs gets her answers). 2y

6. Besides Aurelie, Babs, and Daisy, there are supporting characters in their stories that help shape the women and their decisions, sometimes not in a good way (I‘m thinking of the horrid Pierre!). Are there any standouts to you? #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

KristiAhlers Pierre was the very worst. He was to be honest the only one that stood out for me. 2y
CoverToCoverGirl Pierre-full stop. 2y
Sargar114 Precious was wonderful!!!! I didn‘t expect her to be a spy which means she‘s probably a pretty good spy. I also liked Auriele‘s mother and how she was so much more than meets the eye…kind of like her daughter and granddaughter 2y
Sargar114 I also loved Max and even Kit. Such complex and interesting characters. Especially Max, I want to know what his life was like between Auriele and Daisy. (edited) 2y

5. In order to throw off the Germans, Aurelie‘s father comes up with a plan to send her back to Paris with word that she has retrieved the talisman…What does the talisman represent to Aurelie and her family, and France? Is it truly a magical object? Adapted from the Reading Guide #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

megnews I think the belief the family and France have in the talisman is what gives it its power. People are more willing to take risks and have bigger faith when they feel something greater is on their side. 2y
KristiAhlers I think it gave them a reason to keep moving forward. The power of magic or talismans is the belief a person holds that it‘s powerful. They become the talisman. 2y
CoverToCoverGirl To me the talisman represented hope. In times of dire need people need something to help inspire them - to keep holding on and overcoming insurmountable odds. 2y
Sargar114 Everyone has such great thoughts. The magic isn‘t in the talisman but in the hope it inspires. 2y

4. Throughout the novel Babs is constantly reminded of the ghosts from the past. Does Babs truly break free from them? What about the other women in the novel? Who are their ghosts? Adapted from the Reading Guide #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

KristiAhlers I think she does. Drew is like her fresh start. As for the ghosts of the other women they were ghost of past choices and expectations. Those are rather difficult to escape and as a result they were in my opinion relived. 2y
Sargar114 I also think Babs truly let go of the past when she forgave Daisy. Like @KristiAhlers said, most of their ghosts lied with their choices. It seems when all three women made choices that conflicted with their originally held beliefs, they let go of some of that strain and got stronger. (Ariel‘s and her choice to warn Max; Daisy and her choice to become a spy; Babs deciding to forgive Daisy) 2y

3. How is Daisy like her mother, or not like her? Does that change over the course of the novel? Adapted from the Reading Guide #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

KristiAhlers Daisy‘s story was very similar to her mothers. They both loved who society thought they shouldn‘t Kit for Daisy since he‘s married and so is she and Aurelie by loving a German. I think Daisy‘s life rather mirrored her moms I should think. 2y
Sargar114 I found it so interesting how at first glance their stories seemed so different and in a way they were but the two characters were quite similar. A touch naïve but also quietly strong. 2y

2. How does Aurelie‘s lineage define her? Does that work in her favor or against her? Adapted from Reading Guide #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead

megnews I think once she accepts her role it sets her on a certain path. I definitely think it empowers her with a lot of confidence and expectation that things will go her way. 2y
KristiAhlers @megnews I agree. Especially given the time period where this sort of thing informed on how a woman should act or behave. I think for her it freed her to do what she needed to do and wanted to do. 2y
Sargar114 I agree @megnews. She seemed to at first resent her lineage because she was a woman. However, I kept forgetting how young she was but her actions reminded me and really ended up seeing her growth and how she ultimately owned up to her lineage and what she could do. 2y

1. The dynamic trio of Williams, Willig, and White have collaborated on other books - #LiteraryCrew read The Forgotten Room and The Glass Ocean, and both (in my opinion) are just as compelling. Have you read any of their collaborations before? Any of their own books (we‘ve also read quite a few by Willig!)?

Incidentally, their latest, The Lost Summers of Newport, just came out!

An epic story excellently woven together through formative moments of three separate women. I was enthralled with the mystery from the first chapter and found it difficult to put down. Each of the women were strong but complicated in their own right but I didn‘t find any of their stories lacking. The supporting cast is wonderful and adds to the depth of the novel. Highly recommend! This audiobook was amazing!! We get to view Paris and the Ritz through the lives of 3 enigmatic and inspiring women, one during WWI, one during WWII, and one in the 60s. They are tied together by threads that it takes a while to see but, once you do, you feel for these characters and admire them even more than you already did. I would love to have gotten an authors note detailing what might be real! Touching and beautiful story! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book follows three women in 3 different time periods, World War I, World War II, and the 1960s, all connected by a famous talisman and their distinct bravery, courage, and hope. I loved the depth of the characters, trying to unravel the mysteries between their connections, and the ways they impacted others through their kindness.

Team W has done it again! I really enjoyed this multi-generational tale set in France during WWI, WWII, and the 1960s. and filled with strong women, a mystery to keep you reading, and sweeping family sagas. The transitions between writers were so seamless, I could never tell when one author stopped and another started. This story will truly transport you.

I was given this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
