I skimmed a good portion of this because the information was repetitive. The information itself, however, is crucial and fascinating; from the Dark Web to China's chemical industry to solutions for the problems there's a lot here. The biggest problem is no one is actually taking what they think they are.

Thankfully my #DoubleSpin is proving to be much better; 16 pages and I'm still wide awake 😂
Fascinating and terrifying book. Some of the newer synthetic drugs I was familiar with as a substance abuse counselor. Free space #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
If you‘re not familiar with new international drug trafficking, this is a good primer. He discusses synthetic molecules from fentanyl to spice/K2, and they affect people differently than traditional drugs. He talks to users.
Then he talks to the companies in China openly making fentanyl precursors for shipment to worldwide clandestine labs. In China, the laws are more lax.
Finally, he talks harm reduction in #Slovenia & #Spain. 4.5⭐️🎧 #reread
Most people know about fentanyl, a potent painkiller produced legally for medical use. This book is about not just fentanyl, but other ‘designer‘ drugs created by chemists simply to make money. It‘s about the cartels and how they operate. It‘s about dealers who cut heroin with fentanyl and don‘t care if a user overdoses. It‘s also about how we need to stop jailing users and practice harm reduction instead. Five stars, very informative.
Just finished this interesting read. It was a little repetitive, but overall very informative.
A cross between Dreamland and Bottle of Lies, this book takes a comprehensive look at synthetic drugs from Spice and K2 to fentanyl. From users of fentanyl-laced heroin in St. Louis to makers or fentanyl analogs and precursors in China to harm reduction efforts in Spain and Slovenia, this book will hit the spot for lovers of science, history, and sociology. A must-read for those following the opioid crisis! 5⭐️
I‘ve been #audiocleaning this morning, and so far this book is fascinating! Y‘all know I‘m always up for the latest #nonfiction, and this is been hitting the sweet spot between science and history. But it would be better named “Designer Drugs, Inc.” as it covers K2, Spice, Molly, etc. as well. #audiobook
A comprehensive look at the rise of fentanyl, fentanyl derivatives, and the myriad designer drugs/novel psychoactive substances that have come in their wake. This is the next step in the opioid crisis, since the street heroin addicts have turned to is often cut with varying and dangerous amounts of fentanyls, often with tragic results. Westhoff met with manufacturers in China, makers of safe-testing kits in Europe, and researched the Dark Web.
