⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 this was fine. I had high hopes (a love triangle that caused the great Chicago fire???) but it felt a little weak. Nice idea though.

Not a bad read even though I found myself reminded of Anna Karenina at times (and I absolutely hate that book)

Audio book... At first I was confused with who was who with this book but once I figured it out it was entertaining but not riveting. A bit of 'cheese' dripping from the descriptions of the characters feelings for one another/thoughts etc but not as bad as some books with a romantic relationship in the story.

I thought this was going to be a homerun with Godbersen historical society novel and Chicago. But I don‘t get the flavor of my city, and I probably would have been better off just reading a book about the Great Fire or rereading Sin in the Second City. (But that cover is still a winner!)

This is so beyond true. Even now as I‘m trying to save money and support my library. I still have so many unread books on my bookshelf/kindle that it‘s unreal. One day I‘ll read them all... there‘s hope right guys? #bookworm #currentlyreading #2018readingchallenge #books

I don't read a lot of historical fiction but when I read the blurb of this book at the store it caught my attention and I had to get it. This book tests friendships and makes Emmeline and Fiona realize that they are both in love with the same person. Only Emmeline is set to marry someone else. This book follows the two of them a few days before the great Chicago Fire and than during the fire and right after. I didn't want to put this book down!

valeriegeary What a stunning cover!! 6y

⭐⭐⭐⭐ This got only four stars bc although the story and plot was nice, most of the characters seemed out of a Disney movie. It is also written like a Jane Austin novel, though the style fit the time period used. It was a pleasant story, I would recommend it but with the warning that you have to warm up to it.

Decided to head back to historical fiction on this one. I noticed it got good reviews, so far so good 🙂

I love Godbersen‘s historical fiction books. This one centered around the great fire in Chicago was super interesting. But what really stuck with me was the authors note about how it wasn‘t even the biggest fire in the Midwest on that day.

friendships are tested, hearts are broken, and the tiniest spark might set everything ablaze as the lives of three childhood friends change forever...

Sharpeipup I can‘t wait for this one! 6y
