How Music Works | 
I just began reading “How music works“ by David Byrne. In this book, Byrne writes about all the things he's learned while in his long career as a musician. He talks about how music came to be and how the venues change. I am still in the first part of the book but I can tell that it is going to end up being very interesting.
pickI found this really interesting, particularly the thoughts on architecture and technology influencing music. I also enjoyed Byrne‘s voice, with lots of amusing asides. Worth reading if you dig music or make music, not just if you like Talking Heads; Byrne does discuss music from around the world.
I HAD to listen to Talking Heads while reading this book.
Started this today, and two chapters in, I‘m in love! I didn‘t even know previously that David Byrne wrote books, but the way he makes connections and sees patterns makes me feel like I‘m back in college (which is good 😉). So far he‘s covered the idea that music is informed and shaped by its context, and it feels so novel and so true at the same time.

I can‘t believe that it‘s almost been two months since our wedding!! We had a “post-punk” wedding, with a lot of Talking Heads and Violent Femmes references. As fun as it was, I‘m glad that the planning and writing checks are done for a while! 😍🤗😍😍💜

Technically, I got this book for @Dempsey for Christmas several years back, but as tends to happen, I eventually stole it back for myself.
I requested a favorite book from their book shelves for my Christmas gift from my daughter and her boyfriend. This was from Dan. He is a musician. Sings like Steve Perry from Journey, songwriter and plays multiple instruments. #tbr #blackandwhitecovers #maybookshowers
As music becomes less of a thing--a cylinder, a cassette, a disc--and more ephemeral, perhaps we will begin to assign an increasing value to live performances again.
I like how people look when they read and get so absorbed in a book that they don't notice anyone else.
There is a lot going on in this book! Music theory, biography, psychology and more. Fascinating. Also- I saw a documentary he put together called Contemporary Color, about Color Guards. Wonderful!
