The Romanov Prophecy | Steve Berry
13 posts | 35 read | 15 to read
Ekaterinburg, Russia: July 16, 1918. Ten months have passed since Nicholas IIs reign was cut short by revolutionaries. Tonight, the White Army advances on the town where the Tsar and his family are being held captive by the Bolsheviks. Nicholas dares to hope for salvation. Instead, the Romanovs are coldly and methodically executed. Moscow: Present Day. Atlanta lawyer Miles Lord, fluent in Russian and well versed in the countrys history, is thrilled to be in Moscow on the eve of such a momentous event. After the fall of Communism and a succession of weak governments, the Russian people have voted to bring back the monarchy. The new tsar will be chosen from the distant relatives of Nicholas II by a specially appointed commission, and Miles job is to perform a background check on the Tsarist candidate favored by a powerful group of Western businessmen. But research quickly becomes the least of Miles concerns when he is nearly killed by gunmen on a city plaza. Suddenly Miles is racing across continents, shadowed by nefarious henchmen. At first, his only question is why people are pursuing him. But after a strange conversation with a mysterious Russian, who steers Miles toward the writings of Rasputin, he becomes desperate to know moremost important, what really happened to the family of Russias last tsar? His only companion is Akilina Petrov, a Russian circus performer sympathetic to his struggle, and his only guide is a cryptic message from Rasputin that implies that the bloody night of so long ago is not the last chapter in the Romanovs story . . . and that someone might even have survived the massacre. The prophecys implications are earth-shatteringnot only for the future of the tsar and mother Russia, but also for Miles himself. Steve Berry, national bestselling author of the phenomenal thriller The Amber Room, once again delves into rich historical fact to produce an explosive page-turner. In The Romanov Prophecy, the authentic and the speculative meld into a fascinating and exceptionally suspenseful work of fiction. From the Hardcover edition.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was maybe twice where I questioned the author but overall it was great. I would read it again! One of the more enjoyable Romanov Conspiracy fictions!

An odd choice for comfort reading, perhaps, but I‘ve been longing to reread this practically forever, and now seems like a good time. I‘m working on 3 hours of sleep, I said goodbye to my sweet 18 year old kitty this morning, and not only did the washer repair people not show up, I never even got a call that they weren‘t coming. I mean, I‘m assuming that I don‘t need to wait up since their window ended three hours ago, right?

BookNAround I‘m so sorry about your sweet purr. I‘d say whatever kind of reading comforts you is the right comfort reading. 5y

I feel into a little bit of a historical fiction rabbit hole. It was great! This book set up an interesting premise for now and then had cool flashbacks.

KathyWheeler I'd never read any of his books, but he was a speaker at the Alabama Library Association conference this year. He made his books sound interesting, so I bought a couple. 8y

Before I start my review a warning that this is one of my favourite genres.

I also can't tell you much about the plot but it works on the idea that Russia is trying to find a new Romanov tzar.

After a slowish start, I really got into this book but it isn't one of the best that I've read in the genre - I normally get through them in 1 or 2 days. It's still 4 ⭐ worth though.

@BookishTrish

#2004 entry for the #birthdaychallenge

jenniferw88 Should have stated that I swapped this book for Berry's as the blurb on the other book didn't appeal 8y
Birdsong28 If you like Russian fiction read Jennifer Laam and The Secret Wife by Gill Paul. 📖📚 8y

Lcsmcat It about a post-WWII France trying to bring back monarchy, but it's a comedy, not a thriller. 8y
jenniferw88 @Lcsmcat no, but it's going on my #tbr! 8y
Andrew65 I will be starting book 5 in the Cotton Malone Series tomorrow, I too am a great fan of his work. 8y

Not sure which Avengers actor's voice I hear this quote in - it's either Samuel L Jackson's, Sebastian Stan's or Chris Evans's. What do you think? The character is Russian so Sebastian makes a bit of sense.

ptkpepe98 Well...if it's Cotton Malone, I'm picturing Jeffrey Dean Morgan.😇 8y
jenniferw88 @ptkpepe98 it's said by Iosif Maks 8y
Reecaspieces I enjoyed this book but his best is the amber room! It is superb!! 8y

writerlibrarian @ptkpepe98 Man, how did I miss that... you made me smile first thing this morning. 😁 8y
ptkpepe98 @Reecaspieces - I'm not sure I can name one as a favorite. I really enjoy the heck out of all of them, especially the history. I'm such a nerd. 8y
ptkpepe98 @jenniferw88 - I imagined someone like Tahmoh Penikett as Iosif. I find myself casting characters in my mind as I read. Maybe my imagination is too vivid.😀 8y
ptkpepe98 @writerlibrarian - happy to provide a smile.😀 8y
jenniferw88 @ptkpepe98 I do that too! 🤣 8y

#lyricalapril #takemetochurch Romanov Prphpecy was excellent and thrilling, though I love stories around that story :) Rasputin was a "holy man," and the other three involve The Vatican.

#blamelitsy for the books on the right. Just been on a barge holiday to Bath and I could have spent a fortune in the second shop! My role on the barge was 'duck spotter', hence the badge!

Suet624 Wow. All the light. So good. 8y
jenniferw88 @Suet624 The man I bought it from said that it was their bestseller last year and that he'd had great feedback for it. Here's hoping I enjoy it! 8y
Suet624 Definitely on my top 5 list from last year. Can't wait to hear what you think of it. 8y
