Do you believe in miracles? You will when you discover The Third Secret... For fans of The Da Vinci Code comes a timely thriller that takes us from the echoing halls and papal politics of the Vatican to the wilds of Romania and a mysterious world of holy visitations and miracles. In the library of the Vatican, in its most secret vault, lies a box. A box that may only be opened by the Pope. And within this box once lay a scrap of paper that could shake the foundations of the church and faith itself - until in 1978 a junior cleric seized his chance and stole the paper. in July 1917 the Virgin Mary appeared to three children in Fatima, Portugal, and entrusted them with three secrets. The world soon learned that the first described Hell, and the second foretold the end of World War I and the beginning of World War II. The third, not revealed until 2000, predicted an attempt on a Pope's life - which had indeed taken place 19 years earlier. Shock swept the globe: it didn't make sense - why keep this a secret for so long? And many around the world continued to wonder... Cut to the present day and the frail and elderly Pope Clement XV has become obsessed with accounts of visitations from Mary. He suspects that there was more to the Third Secret and assigns his trusted aide, Father Colin Michener, to discover the truth. Cardinal Valendrea, frontrunner to become the next Pope, knows for sure that there was more to the message than has been revealed, and he's ready to kill to prevent the full Third Secret from being made public. As the cardinals gather in conclave to decide the next Pope and Valendrea prepares for victory, only Michener can stop him, and his quest turns into a roller-coaster of a journey that could change Michener, the Church - and the world - forever. Based on true events, including the Fatima Secrets reported by three peasant children in Portugal, The Third Secret is a riveting thriller that melds fact, theology, tradition and fiction very much in The Da Vinci Code mould. And with the death of Pope John Paul II and the election of his successor fresh in the minds of readers, this is a timely and fascinating insight into the workings of the Vatican.

This was a really satisfying read. I was looking for a fast-paced book with a compelling plot, and this delivered. I actually rooted for the main character. My only issue was the female main character whom I'm still not sure was meant to be annoying or just a proper foil for her male counterpart. But whether you like her or not, she doesn't take much from the experience of enjoying the story. Would still highly recommend this book.

⭐: 4.5

Bahaha look at this gem I found in my #biology main office. They also have VHS tapes too. Some of which sound cool (Australia's Little Assassins. Never opened). #randomfinds

Possibly my favourite Steve Berry standalone book, a Vatican-centred conspiracy thriller. I found this one very entertaining and gave it 5 stars. #three #Novemberbythenumbers

What can be more of a #hallelujah moment than a book based around an incident in Fatima in 1917 when the Virgin Mary appeared to three peasant children, and where a lot of action takes place in the Vatican City. If that isn't enough the new pope is a central character. But hold on a minute this is a Steve Berry book so all may not be what it seems! Really enjoyed this book.

If you know a thing about the Vatican and Pope selection then you will know all the factual information this book offers. That is in honestly the only positive aspect of this book. The story is far fetched and not substantial enough to really deserve the 400 pages. The story is slow mainly due to the lack of material to fill the pages. I found this book extremely slow in reading and just getting to the end was a real work of determination.

Finished this last night . The conclusion wasnt as intense as I hoped but overall the book grabbed me and kept intrigued. It delves deep into the secrets of Fatima that was supposedly revealed to the world in its totality but was not. I looked up the event to read more and found this

ScrappyMags We'll see now I'm definitely going to read it lol 8y
tattoo55 Oh the Catholic League. Protecting their legions from information since the 1200s 8y
Laura317 That's why it's called fiction. Duh! I'm intrigued as well. 8y
Arcana @tattoo55 😂😂😂 yup! 8y
Mcoun Who wouldn't want to read it after that kind of a warning? @tattoo55 You would think the Catholic League would have learned by now that all they are doing is providing free marketing for book publishers! 8y

JoeStalksBeck @WordWaller @britt_brooke @Theresa my friends on fb said it was funny that I keep track of them all. 😀 8y
britt_brooke @Book_Addict What?! Keeping track is essential. 👍🏻 8y
JoeStalksBeck @britt_brooke agreed! It gives me a sense of accomplishment and I'm shocked when I realize how many there are lol! Unfortunately I have had friend literally say just yesterday on fb "I stopped reading years ago" . Makes me sad and sort of scared. 8y
JoeStalksBeck @brit_brooke grr sorry for the phone typos 🤔 8y
Readingismyescape @Book_Addict oh no. That's so sad. How could anyone "stop reading"?? ? 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Readingismyescape I have no idea? she said something about how she knows what the bible says about drugs so I told her there is no mention of them in the bible and she responded with " I stopped reading years ago" . It was an odd exchange but either way I don't know how people don't get involved in books. Any books 8y
britt_brooke @Book_Addict That makes me sad and scared, too. I had a close friend recently say "Oh, you and your books" with an eye roll. It hurt my heart. 8y
Caterina @Book_Addict @Readingismyescape Unfortunately most people in my hometown declare themselves not to have read since high school. They're proud of moving on to focus on their adult lives, having jobs and raising children, and being too busy to bother reading. 8y
Readingismyescape That is odd. And I agree. When the kids at school say they don't like to read, I tell them they just haven't found the right book. 💜📖 8y
Caterina @Book_Addict Super impressed by the number of listens by the way! What do you like to do while listening? 8y
AWahle I've never understood people who don't read. And am actually offended by those who say they don't as a point of pride. I love having this community of people who usually have more than one book going at a time! 😀📚 8y
Caterina @Readingismyescape Yesss that's exactly what I tell people!! 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Readingismyescape very true! Once you find one that triggers the emotions you are drawn in for good😊 8y
Caterina @AWahle Yes, same!! I love how everyone here sincerely adores reading and books. :) 8y
JoeStalksBeck @AWahle people who do not read are difficult for me to have conversations with . I usually get " oh here we go" from them. 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Caterina thanks! I'm a chemist and I work alone in the lab on nightshift so I have 12 hrs a night to listen but I also listen while taking baths, driving, housework , shopping lol anytime!! 😋 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Caterina agreed! I adore this community !! I wish we could all hang out in person and talk books! 8y
Gezemice @Readingismyescape @Book_Addict I have read very little for a long time - I have two kids and after a full time job and chores there is very little time left. Reading is effort and you have to carve out time. I used to play games or do puzzles and crafts, I read now instead - but I do miss sewing or card making and will probably start doing that more and read less at some point. 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Gezemice audio is the way to go if time is limited . 😀 8y
AWahle @Gezemice My libraries offer free memberships to Overdrive and Hoopla. I get so many audio books to listen to in the car or when doing housework. My hubby loves when I have an enthralling book on audio because I actually do housework in order to keep listening! 8y
JoeStalksBeck @AWahle @Gezemice I spent so much time on overdrive it's ridiculous lol ! 8y
JoeStalksBeck @AWahle I got my husband hooked on them listening in the car now he does housework and listens lol! 8y
ErinRich My library does Overdrive and Hoopla too. So I alternate downloading from each one. (I only get 5 downloads a month on Hoopla and 10 checkouts a month on Goodreads.) My TBR list on both of them is ridiculously long! And I also have an Audible subscription for the books I really want to read but can't get from the library.) 8y
missjenniferlowe I am going to have to step it up on my listening! 8y
HotMessJess What a great idea! I love this! What do you use to listen to books on tape? Which app? 8y
JoeStalksBeck @ErinRich I didn't know you could check out on goodreads! I'm gonna have to go there! I check out on Amazon unlimited a lot though too 8y
JoeStalksBeck @missjenniferlowe lol! 📖📚😀👍🏻❤️ 8y
JoeStalksBeck @HotMessJess I listen to books I've downloaded from audible and Amazon unlimited and overdrive. Best thing ever! When I bought my new car it had to have Bluetooth so I could listen in my car! Lol 8y
ErinRich @Book_Addict oops! I didn't mean Goodreads! I meant Overdrive! 🙊 8y
JoeStalksBeck @ErinRich lol! I was searching goodreads just now😂😋 8y
Gezemice @Book_Addict @AWahle I just started listening to some audio on Overdrive. I like it when I do chores! I was referring to why I was not reading much before - I read a lot now. I have health issues that tire me so I work part time and read a lot in bed. But I must say if I am stressed and tired, often reading is difficult, too. So I can understand why people don't read much. 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Gezemice aww honey I'm so sorry ❤️. My thoughts are with you darlin 😊 8y
Gezemice @Book_Addict Oh thanks, don't worry, it is not bad as long as I don't overdo things. Which leaves me time to read 😀 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Gezemice then I envy you! ❤️ 8y
AWahle @Gezemice When the kids were little, I was lucky to read 4-5 books for myself in a year. Now that they are 18 & 20, we share books. Isn't it awful when you're too tired to read, but not tired enough to sleep? 😴📚 8y
Betsy_Huston Any favorites from this list? Always looking for a good audiobook rec 8y
MrBook 😳 *jaw drops to the ground with an anvil sound like Roger Rabbit* H-h-hhhow did you DO that?! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Betsy_Huston I work midnight shifts lol 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Betsy_Huston probably 11.22.63 and Angels and Demons 8y
JoeStalksBeck @MrBook midnight shifts lol 8y
MrBook Ohhhhh. You, you're good you! 😊👏🏻👍🏻 8y

Wanted to give this author another go around so I chose this. I love books both fiction and nonfiction that involve the Vatican . Turns out this book is fascinating ! Happy I decided to try another one of his books.

Lynnsoprano I enjoyed this one, too. I just got tired of his books after a while. Since I haven't read anything by Berry in a couple of years, I may give him another try. 8y
JoeStalksBeck @Lynnsoprano this is the only one I've really enjoyed. The others seem to drag but this one gets right to the point. I try not to judge an author by a book I don't like and at least try a second 📚😀👍🏻 8y
bookishkai I have to recommend The Romanov Prophecy, it was my first of his books and is by far my favorite. Good mix of mystery and history, and included an extensive and informative author's note. 8y
