The Overnight Kidnapper
The Overnight Kidnapper | Andrea Camilleri
4 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Set in Sicily and starring a detective unlike any other in crime fiction, blasts the brain like a shot of pure oxygen. Aglow with local color, packed with flint-dry wit, as fresh and clean as Mediterranean seafood altogether transporting. A.J. Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window The new novel in the irresistible and transporting New York Times bestselling Inspector Montalbano mystery series The day gets off to a bad start for Montalbano: while trying to break up a fight on Marinella beach, he hits the wrong man and is stopped by the Carabinieri. When he finally gets to the office, the inspector learns about a strange abduction: a woman was abducted, drugged, and then released unharmed a few hours later. A few days later, the same thing happens again, but this time the woman abducted is the niece of Enzo, the owner of Montalbanos favorite trattoria. The only link between the two events is that both women are thirty years old and work in a bank. Alongside this investigation, Montalbano has to deal with an arson case. A shop that sells household appliances has burned down, and its owner, Marcello Di Carlo, seems to have vanished into thin air. Has he run off with his lover after a holiday in the Canary Islands? Is he fleeing from his creditors, or was he murdered by the mafia for not paying their protection money? At first this seems like a trivial case, but a third abductionyet again of a girl who works in a bankand the discovery of a body bring up new questions. Whose body is it? And where has Di Carlos secret lover gone?

My last book of 2019 . Fitting because it's been my favorite series this year. I recommend every one. Montalbano always has his hands full, spends a lot of time thinking, eating, signing useless papers and solving crimes. ❤ I read 166 total this year

JanuarieTimewalker13 @Chrissyreadit I was just looking that up and the answer is no...the first book is The Shape Of Water, written in 1994 but not translated into English until 2002 5y
Crazeedi @JanuarieTimewalker13 @Chrissyreadit yes this is the first one. I did audiobooks for the first 17, which gave me voices to hear as I've read the rest. There is also a tv series made in Italy of these books, in subtitles. I'm going to eventually watch them. 5y
Chrissyreadit @JanuarieTimewalker13 @Crazeedi thanks!!! Added it to my TBR. 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Chrissyreadit you‘re welcome🌻 5y
CarolynM I love Montalbano. This is the next one for me. So sad there's only a few after that. 5y
Crazeedi @CarolynM me too, I'm going to cry when they're done, I'm always going to want to go back and see what's happening in Vigata! I read where there are actually 27 total, 3 more to be translated. And theres a Italian tv series too, so I'm going to get my fix watching it eventually! 5y
StayCurious I really think I'll try this series based on your recommendation! +16 5y

Another strong entry into this wonderful series, and the madcap world in which Inspector Montalbano exists. A great group of characters, with some great humour and interplay between them as usual. Andrea Camilleri was great at coming up with quite unique crimes, and this one certainly fits within this mould. Really sorry to hear of his death last week. If you haven‘t tried this series what are you waiting for.

TheEllieMo Love the Montalbano books! 5y

I‘m starting book 23 of the Montalbano Series, which I am reading in tribute to Andrea Camilleri who sadly died last week. Thanks for this wonderful series!

Crazeedi I guess I'm going to have to buy the books if I can, none of the ebook libraries I belong to have book 1 and I want to begin at the beginning!! 5y
Andrew65 That‘s a shame, I really love this quirky series. 5y
