Mighty Thor Vol. 1
Mighty Thor Vol. 1: Thunder In Her Veins | Jason Aaron
25 posts | 33 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
When Dr. Jane Foster lifts the mystic hammer Mjolnir, she is transformed into the Goddess of Thunder, the Mighty Thor! Her enemies are many, as Asgard descends further into chaos and unrest threatens to spread throughout the Ten Realms. Yet her greatest battle is against a far more personal foe: the cancer that is killing her mortal form. When Loki steps back into Thor's life, will it ease her troubles or only add to her pain? It's time to find out whether the next chapter in the twisting tale of the Trickster will be one of good or evil! There's no such question about Malekith, though, as he and his Dark Council continue to fan the flames of a looming War of Realms! Jason Aaron continues his startling saga of the mighty Thor! COLLECTING: MIGHTY THOR 1-5.

Mehso-so

Every couple years I pick up a super hero comic thinking "maybe this will be the one for me!" It is very rare that it is for me.

This is fine. The art is great. But nothing made me want to continue the book. C'est la vie.

ravenlee I tried Ms Marvel a year or so ago and it was the same. Meh. I get why others like it, but it does nothing for me. 2y
everlocalwest @ravenlee That actually is one that worked for me!! I read all of the trades a few years ago and really enjoyed it. So funny how that goes! 2y

Came home from the lake and found out the new Thor movie, Thor Love and Thunder, stars Natalie Portman as The Jane Foster Thor and I couldn't be happier!

How awesome is it that all those misogynist assholes out there that hated on this comic so vehemently and said it was horrible, and would flop because Thor shouldn't be a woman now have to suck it up as the new movie! 😅

Vengeance is so, so, sweet!

downtherabbithole 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I‘m super excited for this movie! The comic was great! 5y

After googling if this series was a spinoff or original , I realised it's a spinoff 😂🙄
BUT I understand where the story is going so to say , and I love it !!

Ok. Past me would have been no, why did you make Thor a woman, even though I‘ve never read a Thor comic in my life. But as I‘ve grown up & experienced the world I appreciate continuations & retellings & playing with canon. Sometimes it takes me awhile to warm up to it but I usually get there. I was ok with Thor being a woman & now that I‘ve read this volume my ok is an emphatic yes. (I still think we can stop rebooting old shows/movies so much).

InLibrisVeritas I adore Thor. Odinson was my favorite superhero for a long time and then female Thor came along and took that. It's still Thor but she makes it her own. I am glad you gave her a chance! 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @InLibrisVeritas Yes, I‘m glad I did too. I think I‘ll keep reading this one. (edited) 6y

4/5

I checked this out on Hoopla earlier this month in an attempt to break through my book slump. I finally read it this morning with only two days left to finish it.

I'd read issue 1 of Thor by Jason Aaron and figured I'd jump back in with his run of The Mighty Thor. It definitely assumes you've read at least a little of the previous run.

This is such a fun series for comic fans! It's Thor at her bombastic best!

I'm enjoying the new Thor comic a lot (though vol. 2 was more of a so-so because there were just so many overdrawn flashbacks). Still. Thor as a lady and balancing her godly duties with cancer treatments? It's good stuff.

I‘m not generally a Thor person, I tend to think that the Asgardians feel incongruous with the rest of the Marvel universe. But this volume was awesome. Interesting characters, great dialogue, and some of the best art I‘ve seen from Marvel.

I loved this story arc. The political climate of Asgard feel very timely right now and it has perfect character development, pacing, tension, and action. I look forward to reading more.

My husband got me this for Christmas, and I'm just now reading it. I was on the fence about a female Thor, but the war in Asgard and Thor, herself, won me over.

queerbookreader The writing is phenomenal, which is what really sold me 7y

So we now know who Thor is and I love the vulnerability in the character when not in Thor form. It's by far my favourite thing about this series, she's still kick ass but as a human she's facing something a God never will. Also main war arc is kicking off good. Pick this up sometime ##kickassheroines

I got into yet another Facebook fight with yet another Trump supporter. Going through my comics backlog in the hope that I will find something to read that will purge this excess of anger. Looks like Dr. Foster might be just the thing I need. I could not be trusted to wield Mjolnir; today is a day that I would have most certainly abused that power.

A nice balance of humor, bravery, and tragedy. Much much better than the first volumes. These villains are written as true villains who don't give up because 'girl power' and 'we girls just have to stick together.' Sheesh.

Wow. This is one of the titles I've been waiting to read in trade, and it turns out that it's one of those I'd consider well worth buying in singles. Loki! War! (Not caused by Loki, really?) Asgardian Civil War! Thor vs. Odin! And of course, the new Thor, I love her so.
