It's unfortunate that Duffy's art is so...boring, because Duffy's transcription of Butler's prose is excellent.

#Booked2023 #AfroFuturism #52Books #OctaviaButler I was worried about these prompts as I don‘t really enjoy Sci-Fi or fantasy but this Graphic Novel adaptation was really wonderful. I thought the artwork and story boards were beautifully done. It was so eerie to see how intuitive Octavia But.er was regarding the “future” (2024) of the world, specifically the United States. So glad I was able to borrow via #Hoopla.
Rec by @Megabooks ♥️
Wow, how eerie that Butler foresaw what the world would look like in 2024…..it‘s pretty accurate 😳😱 I‘m so glad that @Megabooks suggested I try the GN adaptation of Butler‘s work. It‘s really working well for me in this format
Butler's story is frightening and powerful, but I feel lukewarm about this graphic novel adaptation.
It's been a slow reading week, so this is only my second book finished for the #NovelNovember readathon, but I hope to catch up on the weekend. @Andrew65
I've completed November's #doublespin! @TheAromaofBooks
Drawn similarly to the graphic novel adaptation of Kindred, I think that outside of experimenting with how Laura endures her hyperempathy, this book feels like the Sparknotes version of one of Butler's best works.
Library haul, #graphicnovel edition. On my hook : still this Fjell Cardigan
It‘s been quite a few years since I read the original novel, but some scenes in this graphic adaptation brought memories of it vividly back, so I‘d guess it‘s pretty faithful! The artwork is more evocative than descriptive, which is probably a good choice for this book—I liked the way it showed Lauren‘s hyperempathy—but annoying when I wanted to keep track of the characters. This is a powerful story and worth reading in any form.
Yeah, Bankole, that‘s what I‘ve been thinking this whole time 😂
“I used to wait for the big crash, the sudden chaos that would destroy the neighborhood. Instead, things are unraveling, bit by bit.”
A good lesson, but hard to apply.
It‘s a good story and as relevant now as ever. The drawings are rich and the adapted story was easy to follow. Sort of like watching a movie, graphic novels are. This was maybe my 3rd.
I related much more with Lauren's father who is in his 50s. I barely recall him as a character when I read this 20+ years ago. That was an indicator of my aging if anything is!

My book club is reading Parable of the Sower this month which I have already read. Was psyched to find this graphic novel adaptation to make the story a fresh read for me. #octaviabutler #johnjennings #damianduffy #graphicnovel #bookclub
Not a comfortable read during the pandemic and while California burns. Written in 1993, Butler is eerily prescient. I sure hope everything in this novel doesn‘t come true‼️😳 On second thought please read this before you vote if you are considering the orange abomination...
First Octavia Butler book for the month completed. I really enjoyed this graphic novel adaptation of Butler‘s Parable of the Sower. Having key points from the novel taken and used to help depict the story was wonderfully done. Here‘s hoping to do a graphic novel for Parable of the Talents. #AuthorAMonth #AAMOB
Strong and compelling story with some very topical themes.
Even though this ARC is far from finished - the preface is missing and some art is just sketches - this graphic novel has the potential to be a huge up and coming seller next year. The themes in the novel and this adaptation speak so poignantly to our experiences in 2019 and I hope this graphic novel will have more people exposed to Butler's genius. #arc #netgalley
