Before time as we know it began, gods and goddesses lived in the city of Asgard. Odin All Father crossed the Rainbow Bridge to walk among men in Midgard. Thor defended Asgard with his mighty hammer. Mischievous Loki was constantly getting into trouble with the other gods, and dragons and giants walked free. This collection of Norse sagas retold by author Padraic Colum gives us a sense of that magical time when the world was filled with powers and wonders we can hardly imagine.

I really struggled with this one, which I don‘t recall from the first time I read it. For a short book (199 pages with occasional illustrations) it took me a while to get through it.

Interesting stories of the Norse gods, culminating in Ragnarok. The ring cycle is pretty glossed over, and you can tell these stories have been sanitized (bedtime stories), but not bad.

ravenlee @cinfhen I did appreciate the humor of this choice. I thought, because it was a reread, it‘s be a pretty easy read, but I really struggled with it. Think I‘m going to try Gaiman‘s Norse Mythology soon for contrast. 6y
