The Red Market
The Red Market: On the Trail of the World's Organ Brokers, Bone Thieves, Blood Farmers, and Child Traffickers | Scott Carney
8 posts | 13 read | 12 to read
An unforgettable nonfiction thriller, expertly reported.A tremendously revealing and twisted ride, where life and death are now mere cold cash commodities. Michael Largo, author of Final Exits Award-winning investigative journalist and contributing Wired editor Scott Carney leads readers on a breathtaking journey through the macabre underworld of the global body bazaar, where organs, bones, and even live people are bought and sold on The Red Market. As gripping as CSI and as eye-opening as Mary Roachs Stiff, Carneys The Red Market sheds a blazing new light on the disturbing, billion-dollar business of trading in human body parts, bodies, and child trafficking, raising issues and exposing corruptions almost too bizarre and shocking to imagine.

A human being is made up of parts. Both its parts and the whole each has a price. The Red Market is where you learn what that price is, both in terms of money and morals. In here you'll find some dark corners of our seemingly innocuous medical practices. Do not read this you have no wish to go behind the scenes. No one will fault you if you avoid adding this to your knowledge base. But for the darkly curious, this may just be your ticket.

Red market is market/economy that trades with human tissue, body parts and even whole people ... The lack of regulation and non-transparency opens many possibilities for illegal trades and exploitation ... Quote from the book is the best description of that chilling investigation: “The ample supply of available organs in the third world and excruciatingly long waiting lists in the first world, make organ brokering a profitable occupation.” 5⭐️

Bookzombie This sounds interesting and disturbing. Stacked! 5y

Simona @bookzombie It is very disturbing, but it is also eye-opening. 5y
Simona @clwojick I think an audiobook is an even better choice than a printed one 👍 5y
Bookzombie @Clwojick I found it on Hoopla if you have it. It will be a bit before I get to it but I like to know where it is. 🤓 5y

I DNF this at page 30 unfortunately. I was really looking forward to reading this. The topic is intriguing but the writing is trite and boring. Hopefully I can find another similar book. Any recommendations? 🙂

Crazeedi I am intrigued by the blurb on top , a shame it isn't well done 5y
thereadingowlvina @Crazeedi I know right? It's a fascinating and little known topic. Now I'm on a mission to look for books similar to this 😁 5y
Crazeedi @thereadingowlvina I'd definitely be interested too, if I find I'll tag you, and if you do let me know! 5y

This is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read.

Slynn71 Owie!! 7y
RadicalReader @Ajbsimpson this looks like such a phenomenal novel. Definitely something very eerily interesting when it comes to the macabre and mysterious organs of the human body and the plots for novels they provide 7y
Ajbsimpson It's nonfiction. It's about the selling of blood, bones, organs, etc. It is a fascinating read. 7y
Sydsavvy Hmmm. That looks familiar. 🤔 7y
