Översättare: Eva Johansson, Omslagsformgivare: Jojo Form AB

This was a different sort of mystery. I didn't love it quite as much as Big Little Lies, but I did love it. The audio narration was terrific as well.

I think it was good. But maybe too busy? Like I didn‘t care enough about each character. Didn‘t think I‘d finish my #BookSpin this month but … thanks to COVID I‘m just laying around.

Meh. I‘m not usually one to see things coming (I‘m not trying to, I‘m just enjoying the story) but I saw a lot of these twists coming. Also, the characters were not very likable. I didn‘t dislike it enough to not finish it but I definitely didn‘t love it either.

I loved this one! It was truly captivating and I found myself saying “just one more chapter†each time I picked it up. The intertwined lives of all the characters was so well thought out and really played on the ripple effect idea of one small action having far reaching impacts on the lives of others. It was raw and tender with a vulnerable look at the little secrets we all keep to protect ourselves and those around us

âï¸âï¸? Just not my kind of book.

How well do you know your husband?

Cecilia Fitzpatrick, devoted mother, successful Tupperware business owner and efficient P&C President, has found a letter from her husband.

"For my wife, Cecilia Fitzpatrick, to be opened only in the event of my death".

But Cecilia's husband isn't dead, he's on a business trip. And when she questions him about it on the phone, Cecilia senses that John-Paul is lying.

A wonderful last day at the Sydney Writer‘s festival. Today started off with Indira Naidoo & Delia Falconer where I shed a tear, then an interesting free lecture on architecture & cemeteries followed by Diana Reid & Allee Richards, the discovery of Maxine Beneba Clarke, then Liane Moriarty interviewed by Caroline Overington who got very nosy & last of all David Williamson (a playwright who I hated in high school) interviewed by Trent Dalton.

CarolynM Ooooh! Why did you hate David Williamson? I haven‘t been mad about all of his plays, but some of them are brilliant! 3y
LapReader @CarolynM I appreciate them now but hated studying them at school. He was fascinating to listen to today. You should buy his new book. 3y
CarolynM Fair enough. Studying any play is enough to take the joy out of it in my mind🙂 I got his book for Christmas but I haven‘t got around to reading it yet. One day soon. 3y
Jeg Sounds like a very good day. Actually seeing people in the flesh. Seems an age since we‘ve had a writers festival that wasn‘t mainly on screens. 3y

Typical Moriarty, full of drama, a little mystery, a lot of upper middle class women. It went by pretty fast, kept me engaged, but it‘s not particularly memorable. It‘s my kind of unwind-read, if I‘m not up for a rom-com.

I couldn‘t put this one down! Just like Big Little Lies, Moriarty does a wonderful job of switching between multiple points of view to keep you on your toes. Cecilia Fitzpatrick finds a letter containing her husband‘s darkest secret, meant to be read after he dies. In a Pandoric moment, uncovering this secret while he still lives turns her world upside-down. Would you open the letter if you saw it? Not gonna lie, I think I would 👀

Between paper books and audiobooks I‘m tackling my TBR! Enjoyed the holiday reads. The tagged was good. Second Moriarty. Liked how she showed how interconnected lives could be, and how one act or decision could impact many other lives.

CBee Which other Moriarty have you read? I also really liked 4y
CBee @SW-T haven‘t read that one! Been a bit on the fence about it actually. Did you like? 4y
SW-T @CBee I did, though I have to admit it was kinda quirky and weird in parts, but somehow it all worked, at least for me. What Alice Forgot looks interesting. I‘ll have to add it to my TBR. 4y
CBee @SW-T cool! Maybe one of these days I‘ll read it 😄 4y

This novel was fine. A little too tied-up-in-a-bow, but it worked as an audiobook on walks and doing housework and as a curl-up-on-the-couch paperback, although it was a challenge to shift between the two because the chapters don't line up between the two versions. Curious what other differences there are, but not curious enough to re-read.

Item 23 for the #litsybitsy scavenger hunt is "lane way." I'm not sure we have those in San Diego. This is the closest I've found so far. It smells like eucalyptus and sage.
? The Husband's Secret
? 4.99 miles
I'm alternating between the paperback and the audio for the tagged book and the chapters don't line up. Anyone know why that happens? Different editions for different countries, maybe?

Pedestrian bridge for the #litsybitsy scavenger hunt (item 21). I love pedestrian bridges, but I don't use this one much because it has lots of blind corners around which one can stumble upon someone sleeping.

#litsybitsy scavenger hunt, 10: wild animal. Or at least I think a suburban bunny counts as "wild."

"An inadvertent wife fiercely guarding her husband's secret. A socially phobic wife with her marriage in turmoil. A mother dead set on finding her daughter's murderer. And now their lives converge !"

Even though the plot is witty, biting, clever and interspersed with events evoking some worthwhile introspection, I couldn't help the feeling that some of the chapters were dragged out. Nevertheless an engrossing read.

Loved this audiobook!

Cecilia finds a letter from her husband that is only to be opened if he has died... what could be so horrible he couldn‘t just tell her? Can Cecilia really know this letter exists and not open it?

Could you?

Loved the characters, the ending, and the way each plot had a bit of a finishing line. If you‘re a fan of Moriarty, this should definitely be on your TBR list!

Pageturner1 now i have to read the book to find out. i love the suspense. 4y
KristenDuck @Pageturner1 you‘ll like it! 4y
Kaila-ann I tried to listen to the audio and got lost. I still have a physical copy on my shelves. 4y
KristenDuck @Kaila-ann you have to straighten out the characters first but once you know each one, it really gets going! 4y
Kaila-ann @KristenDuck I‘ve heard it‘s good but I tend to listen to my books in the car (driving) and ended up completely lost where the book was going lol. I‘ll get to it eventually 😜. 4y
