Heaven | V C Andrews
12 posts | 62 read | 10 to read
Of all the folks in the mountain shacks, the Casteels were the lowest -- the scum of the hills. Heaven Leigh Casteel was the prettiest, smartest girl in the backwoods, despite her ragged clothes and dirty face...despite a father meaner than ten vipers...despite her weary stepmother, who worked her like a mule. For her brother Tom and the little ones, Heaven clung to her pride and her hopes. Someday they'd get away and show the world that they were decent, fine and talented -- worthy of love and respect. Then Heaven's stepmother ran off, and her wicked, greedy father had a scheme -- a vicious scheme that threatened to destroy the precious dream of Heaven and the children forever!

Just when I thought I couldn't hate a character as much as I hated Luke Casteel, along comes Kitty, and changes my mind!

Did a final final bookhaul! I bought the Dollanganger series and the Casteel series by V.C. Andrews! I remember reading both series when I was in my early teens, so I figured, I was long overdue for another readthrough!

ShyBookOwl Oh nostalgia. I still have a small collection of VC Andrews. I was obsessed when I was about 12, and looking back I'm like.. 🤔, those stories are really messed up for kids! Lol! Tagged book in particular! 6y
Author_Chelsea_Warren_PA I may go and buy the rest of the V.C. Andrews books my library book sale has just because she's one of my favorite authors. I think they had a copy of Celeste, so I will definitely be reading that! :) 6y

Yes, I read the trashy, scandalous Andrews books as a middle schooler. Yes, I enjoyed the heck out of them.

I am not ashamed, and now I‘m thinking a reread may be in order. 😂

Also, googling ‘books in heaven‘ sent me on a weird trip that I immediately navigated away from. Wowza. 😇

Slajaunie I read them as well! We were talking about these yesterday. 6y
Bookladylinda 😂😂 I read them too! 6y

BookwormM I loved them 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf I read Flowers in the Attic in 5th grade. 6y
DGRachel This cracks me up. I can‘t believe how many of us read Flowers in the Attic and other VC Andrews books starting around 5th grade and into middle school. I tease my mother all the time about how it was great that she never censored what I read, but that I kind of wish she hadn‘t let me read these when I was that young. In her defense, she‘s never read them and had no idea what I was reading. 😳 6y
Chrissyreadit I remember this....@DGRachel you are so right! I did not think I was a helicopter mom until now- Luckily my 14 year old set me straight and said flat out "don't censor my reading". 6y
Jerdencon @DGRachel I say exactly the same thing all the time! My mother was not a reader and never censored me! I was reading all sorts of inappropriate stuff at 10! As a mom of a 9 year old boy I try not to censor too much but thankfully he hasn't picked up anything too crazy yet! (edited) 6y
batsy I read the heck out of VC Andrews books, too 😁 I thought I haven't read this one but I remember the Casteels 😆 6y
Reagan I definitely started those when I was a preteen. I read a great article about giving kids free reign over their reading, my 6 year old reads a lot and I told her she can read anything in the house. I am curious what she gravitates towards. She read 3 pages of the new Craig Davidson. 6y
KristinaRay I was kind of obsessed with V.C. Andrews...I read 3 of her series in Jr. high. The Flowers in the Attic series(the Dollangers), the Heaven series( the Casteels), and The Dawn series (the Cutlers). I started off with My Sweet Audrina which Is the only one I‘ve reread as an adult. 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I read them too!!! If I didn‘t already have so many to read I would read them all again!!! 6y
Scurvygirl I loved these! So dark and twisted. 6y
Rcoco Guilty pleasure 6y
sprainedbrain @DGRachel @Jerdencon My mom gave me free reign at the library, but I remember she used to pick up my books sometimes and shake her head a little... like when I read The Amityville Horror at 11 and couldn‘t sleep for a week. 😂 6y
Chili Yup! V.C. Andrews was big in jr. high. 6y
sprainedbrain @Reagan-reads @Chrissyreadit I‘ve always let my kids read what they want from my shelves... of course, the more risqué stuff I usually had on my kindle, so my small kids didn‘t have the option to page through Fifty Shades. ?. Now that the older kids are teenagers, though, I don‘t censor their reading at all. 6y
Chrissyreadit @sprainedbrain I had my reading privileges removed by asking my mom what something meant. I was in elementary school and reading Forever. I did not realize I had limited my kids until my son made that comment! 6y
vkois88 I need to get some of her books 6y
overtheedge I still enjoy her stories, and series! 6y

When I was a kid I read every VC Andrews book I could get my hands on. So creepy! So scandalous! I read this one way back when and decided to reread it for fun, to see if I enjoy it now as much as I did then. And you know what? I did. What a great guilty pleasure! V.C. Andrews was not really a great writer or an artist, but I can't put her books down regardless.

Thanks for all the love on the loss of our sweet Pablo. He's missed so much. We're doing ok and experiencing a kitty free house for the first time in over 20 years. Even with 3 beagles, it's quiet. 💔 @britt_brooke @StaceyKondla @8little_paws @Hollie @LectricSheep @christineandbooks @SusanInTiburon @LauraBeth @Suzze @heatherkaz @dariazeoli @GlitteryOtters @ScorpioBookDreams @haileyhugsbooks @rubyslippersreads @Tanner @slhbooks @Cinfhen @Lwsmith
