My usual: one physical book, one audiobook and one middle grade book! I'm especially enjoying Dead City!🧟

💀💀💀💀
A bit of a different take on zombies in this totally fun middle grade novel. 03:34 added to my time for #cyoreadathon, for a total so far of 13 hours and 56 minutes and 5 books completed. +46 for #TeamHarkness (299 total #scarathlon points).

Dead City is hilarious! It contains zombies, jokes and some pretty cool fighting matches. This is definitely my favorite book!

Found this great link for those monsters who are reading above level but are not quite YA content ready!

Pictured is my youngest devouring Dead City which he started yesterday. Good thing I grabbed book two when I checked out book one! #middlegrade

Louise I love to see kids reading! 🙌🏻🎉 8y
Lwiesman I really wish my kids enjoyed reading😞 8y
josie281 @Lwiesman two out of three of mine really enjoy it. The third has learned to accept it a little because we have tried audiobooks, all the genres, etc. 8y

josie281 @Louise I so love seeing it as well! 8y
Lwiesman @josie281 he is listening to the audio of The Outsiders for his summer reading for school. He is actually enjoying it but he won't admit it!! My only requirement right now with audios is for him to follow along in the book. I think it helps build vocabulary. (edited) 8y
tournevis That is so going to be a problem for us in a couple years. My first grader already reada at 3rd grade level. 8y
Louise @tournevis I remember buying The Works of Plato with my pocket money when I was in junior high school. The bookseller said, "That's quite a big book for a young girl to be reading." I just said, "Mmm-hmm." At that age, I found Socrates's unwillingness to arrive at a definite answer very frustrating, but I loved letting the language carry me along! (edited) 8y
saresmoore I got the same email from Brightly! I love their lists. 8y
tournevis @Louise Same story for me but with Voltaire. 8y
ContraryMary Great list! Thanks for sharing, I'll have to pick some of these up! 8y
josie281 I did the same growing up, @Louise and @tournevis ! @saresmoore My library Twitter feed is where I snagged the link! I will have to add myself to Brightly's email list! 8y
saresmoore Yes! It's one of the few mailing lists I actually like being on! 8y
Louise @tournevis @josie281 We have found our tribe here on Litsy! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 7y
HeatherBookNerd I wish I'd had that when my kids were that age! 7y

My 5th grader son read this and really liked it. He asked me to read it so we could talk about it plus he "just knew" I would love it. What can I say, he knows me very well. I LOVED it!!! The characters were fun, the theme was fresh, it was spooky and thrilling enough for middle grade and even got my heart thumping a couple times. I can't wait to surprise my son with book #2!

"You're probably wondering why there's a dead body in the bathroom..." Thus begins Dead City, in which Molly Bigelow fights zombies while trying to make it through 7th Grade at then Metropolitan Institute of Science and Tech. I inhaled all three books.

Mommamanzi My son loved them! I guess it's my turn to give them a go! 8y
