Fantastic read. So much of the history of the West reads like a “history” book, but this is entertaining. This narrative seems to tell all stories that come together to help give a more complete picture of Manifest Destiny.
This was fantastic. And it made me a little embarrassed how little I remembered of this portion of US history. The Mexican-American war and Navajo wars were basically big empty holes in my knowledge. #howjessreadsin2019
This puzzle turned out to be the perfect accompaniment for chapters about Fremont and Carson‘s exploration in Oregon territory. I do love a good #audiopuzzle session! This is my second audiobook and second puzzle of the day. 🙂
This book is surprisingly funny for a history! Sides has got some great side-eye.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. The minute I finished it, I went online and immediately bought two more books by Hampton Sides. This book covers a TON of information, from the legend of Kit Carson to the displacement of the American Indians to the various wars that took place during westward expansion in the U.S. Yet it flows effortlessly. Truly one of my top nonfiction reads ever.
Just grabbed this book today. I've heard great things and can't wait to dive in.
I watched a really interesting interview/discussion with the author on C-SPAN2 about the life and times of Kit Carson. Fun fact: He was only 5'4".
#BookNDinner! Accompaniment this frigid night: London broil marinated in beef broth and gravy in the crockpot 8 hours; sautéed mushrooms & garlic; baked potato; smokehouse green beans; warmed fresh peasant bread; Vanilla Coke (and shrimp, not pictured). MMMmmmm ?! This has been another presentation of: #MrBookBookBabeKitchen. Happy reads & happy eats ???! Any takers on coming here for some grub sometime or what?!
