One of the best books I read about suicide and grief. With a bit of humor and lightness this is the sad story of a family torn apart by the death of the eldest son, Kit. How can a family keep on functioning afterwards, is that even possible? The things being said and left unsaid, everything changed forever…
Rebecca Wait explores it all in this wonderful, heartbreaking novel in a way only she can.

PageShifter Wow, sounds like a tough read 3mo
BarbaraBB @PageShifter It is, yet it‘s a a gem to read! 3mo
sarahbarnes Sounds very good. I just finished In Defence of the Act and this sounds like it may feel similar in some ways. 3mo

BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes I loved that one too. 3mo
sarahbarnes I loved it also. I bought it after seeing you recommended it. 😁 I just finished it and need to still post a review. 3mo
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes It‘s hard to write a review about it! This book is much more of a novel, ie a family drama, but with the same result. And I love the author. You do too, I think? She also wrote 3mo
sarahbarnes I agree, it‘s hard to express my thoughts about it. And yes, I do also love Wait! ♥️ 3mo
TrishB One of my all time favourite books. ❤️ 3mo
BarbaraBB @TrishB I think it will be one of mine too. 3mo

The worst happened. Halfway through this book, just in the middle of Jamie‘s letters to his father regarding the death of his brother Kit, I left it behind in a Japanese train….
I hope I can downland an ebook somehow when I‘ve got strong WiFi again.
The good thing is I already took this photo on the beautiful and spiritual pilgrims path Kumano Kodo.

Hooked_on_books Gorgeous picture, but oh no! The loss of an unfinished book is terrible! 4mo
julesG Oh no! But you probably made a stranger happy with the unexpected book on the train. 4mo
sisilia You‘ll find it in the lost and found 😃 4mo

BarbaraBB @julesG I do hope so! 4mo
BarbaraBB @sisilia In Japan that‘s probably true! I can ask when I am taking the train next time! 4mo
BarbaraBB @TrishB I must! I was totally absorbed by it. She‘s such a good writer 4mo
sarahbarnes Oh no - the worst indeed! Great pic though. 🩵 4mo
IuliaC Lovely pic and hope you find it online and continue to enjoy your vacation! 4mo
Ruthiella Oh no! 😬 Hope you are able to pick up a digital copy. 🤞 4mo

#2023ReadingBracket #Fiction

It will take a better reader than me to decide which should be my top book of the year. And if I‘m honest I would squeeze a couple more into the top spot. Rebecca Wait certainly gets top author because the tagged and Our Fathers are both deserving.

Thank you @chasjjlee for the bracket 💜

Well, this book seals the deal. I will read whatever Rebecca Wait writes. Another heartbreaking story of family trying to survive a tragedy. Her characters are so well drawn. There is an honesty in the way she elicits my emotions for the characters and plots without my feeling manipulated into a puddle of tears. This one is going to stay with me. 5🌟

I completed my #SummerEndReadathon goal of 20 books 🎉

Thanks for hosting! @TheSpineView

@Andrew65 is hosting the end of September #20in4 readathon. Choose your goals and read along. I‘m on my way today to visit family for a week so reading time will be hampered by chatting, etc. I have 4 chapters of The Two Towers to read to catch up with my group and 20 chapters left in Without a Brew for nighttime reading. The View on the Way Down is my audio choice.

Andrew65 Great to have you with us, good luck 😁 14mo
BarbaraBB Looking forward to this Wait book 14mo

This was *quite* different to the previous Wait book I read. (I‘m Sorry You Feel That Way)

This one is really very sad, heartbreakingly so,💔 but still beautifully observed in terms of people and behaviours.

CW below as it is a big spoiler for the book.

Thanks for gifting this to me @TrishB - I need to continue to read the rest of this author‘s books.

(Henry looks grumpy as he‘s too tired to pose - he‘s had a busy day on the beach)

squirrelbrain CW for suicide 2y
TrishB It is really sad, but as you say so poignantly written. This one has stayed with me! 2y
MicheleinPhilly Henry looks like I feel at the end of this hellish week. 2y

BarbaraBB I went looking for another Rebecca Wait book after loving Our Fathers and am glad to read this review. Ordering it now! Would you recommend the other one too that you mention in your review? 1y
BarbaraBB I realize now that I do own a copy of I am Sorry You Feel That Way! I didn‘t realize it was the same author! 1y
squirrelbrain @BarbaraBB - yes, the same author. Sorry is definitely my favourite so far, although I haven‘t read Our Fathers yet. 1y
BarbaraBB Thanks! I will read them both. Do read Our Fathers 💕 1y

Loved this book when I read but 💔.
Not sure I could get through it now due to lots of life things. The reveal in this makes your heart ache.

Cinfhen Sounds so sad...is it YA?!?! 6y
TrishB @Cinfhen Amazon has it classed as YA, but I don‘t think it was. Told from teenagers perspective so that‘s perhaps why, but all other family members get a chance to ‘speak‘ as such. It is very sad. I recommended to someone in work and they were listening on headphones in bed and sobbed so much they woke their other half up! (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Not sure I‘m up for such a sad book 6y

TrishB @Cinfhen completely understand. I couldn‘t read at the moment. 6y
Elizabeth2 It sounds like a good book club book. 6y
TrishB @Elizabeth2 I think it would be as there are a lot of moral dilemmas to discuss. 6y

#disabilities One about physical disabilities and one about mental health. Wonder does end on an uplifting note, but is still sad.
The View on the Way down is heartbreaking and I cried so much! Constantly makes you think about it from the whole family's viewpoint, so so sad.
