pickBirthday girl is a story about the girl working on her birthday, that particular day she has to serve dinner to her boss where she is waitress. Seems ordinary but after an odd conversation, the man asks her to make a wish on her birthday, any wish and it will be fulfilled. The book never mentions the wish of the girl or if it has been granted and that is the beauty of the story. Birthday girl being short and simple lingered on my mind for days.
pickAn odd but enchanting story in which Murakami makes clever allusions to possible outcomes, but leaves the story‘s « doors and windows » open so to speak....Its interpretation bends to the reader‘s perceptions and that‘s what creates the magic!
It‘s the (nameless) MC‘s 20th birthday and she is invited to have a wish granted...
