I wrestled with that shadow, but it wasn't any fun, I tried my very hardest - all the same, my shadow won.

Again, I really enjoyed the poem that gave the book its name. The way it makes the reader think the bully is a boy, but in the end it is a girl. This addresses stereotypes and also would be a good way to start conversation about not judging a book by its cover.
This book is full of great poetry. It mixes humor and heartfelt poems with poems that have deeper meanings and address issues we are dealing with today. In the poem “The New Kid on the Block“ stereotypes are addressed as a bully turns out to be a girl.
This is such a fun book that will get students into reading poetry because it is genuinely funny! This book is collection of different poems that have been put into one book.
These illustrations remind me of Roald Dahl, he was one of my favorite authors as a kid.
This was a great example of poetry that will definitely keep children engage. They will really love the silly nature of the book and the images enhance every line in the poems.
I would use this in my classroom because the poems are easy to follow, short, and will hold children's attention with humor.
“Today is a day to crow about, it's a crowable sort of day“
I would use this in my classroom because the poems are short and funny. The illustrations also will grab the students attention.
This is a very good and comical poetry collection. The poems are light-hearted and the comedy will keep the students engaged. The images help to extend the comedic effect of the poems.
“Homework! Oh, homework!
I hate you! You stink!
I wish I could wash you
Away in the sink.”
The drawings and illustrations are my favorite part. I also love how short these poems are. Easy and straight to the point. They are all very funny as well.
The New Kid on the Block by Jack Prelutsky was a book about different types of poems about different people, things and animals. It talks about dogs, Dracula, brothers, bananas, headaches, etc. just numerous types of random things! I think children would really enjoy the randomness as well as these poems are very short for children to read and or listen to. The words used are very kid appropriate and they could easily understand them.
#UCFLAE3414SU19 this P book was literally one of my favorite books growing up! It would be so fun to do a RA, PR, or SR. It is a hilarious collection of poems that students will love!! “My Brother‘s Head Should Be Replaced” influences one of the poems I wrote about my sister. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKwl5JBb_i0 is some of the poems read aloud.
Thanks @Texreader for the great idea of finding my #firstpost ! I joined Litsy after hearing @ErinSueGreads talk about it at the Denver Comic Con, June 2018.
I‘m so glad I joined and thank you so much for my first 6 likes here: @Nerdy_Bookworm @RJHowe @ReadingOver50 @Eggs @RaimeyGallant @rather_be_reading
Yet another of my friends has joined our Litsy family. Extending a warm welcome to @Pamwham . I know she will share her love of books and also her gorgeous pictures of her Southern California beach life. (Of course, this being my post, you get South Florida beach pics 😂)
This P book is filled with silly poems from jelly fish stew to let alligators. This book is filled with poems that students can memorize and perform. Poems help students who struggle with reading to feel more confident and help with there phonics skills. This book would be great to use in April as shown by this link: http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/calendar-activities/april-nati...
Pro tip for those new to #Litsy whether you‘re here bc of #LitsyonLT or discovered it some other way: search for a book and then from the book profile, read people's posts. When I read a review and think, "yes that's exactly how I felt!" I check out more of what they've read to see if I want to follow them. Alternately, look up what you‘re reading right now and see who has posted about it recently; that‘s another easy way to connect. #catsoflitsy

The new kid on the block by Jack Prelutsky illustrated by James Stevenson is a P picture book. This book has poems about many things like bouncing mouse and jellyfish stew. This book would be good for GR. El-34 De-emphasize speed and emphasize accuracy of work. UDL-5.3 Build Fluencies with graduated levels of support for
practice and performance. http://jdsrockinreaders.blogspot.com/2013/02/guided-reading.html?m=1 the website has guided reading
Hey everyone! Welcome my long time friend @Craft__Beard !!👏👏👏👏📖📚❤️ give him a big Litten welcome!❤️
This book of poems is filled with sarcasm and wit that mostly went over my head as a kid. I found a copy recently and got it for my son, but I ended up reading it for myself and I could not stop laughing. It's probably the reason I grew up to be so snarky. 😂 #augustofbooks #booksthatmadeyousmile
And I wonder how I became such a sarcastic member of the grammar police...
