Was it Frederick‘s voice?
Was it magic?”

I enjoyed reading this book. I believe that I can use this book to talk about the classroom community. I can explain to my students that we all bring our own special talents and we get to shine at our own times.
“Frederick” is a Caldecott Award Honor Book. This book is a tall tale where the characters are made up of animals. Each mouse has a task to gather food and other necessities for winter hibernation. However, Fredrick claims his job is to absorb the sun and colors of the summer time. The moral that can be learned from this story is that everyone has special talents in their own way.
“Then they remembered what Frederick had said about sun rays and colors and words. 'What about your supplies, Frederick?' they asked“.
I enjoyed reading this story because the fifth mouse is understood but he is valuable in a different way than the other mice. I think students would be able to relate to this story, this would be a great way for students to point out their strengths.
Frederick won a Caldecott Honor in 1968. This book is about a family of five field mice who are preparing for winter. One of the mice have an unconventional way of preparing, the other mice do not seem to understand what the fifth mouse is doing until winter arrives. The illustrations in the book are a simple collage style that gives the mice life.
My best friend sent me this book because she finds it "inspiring during these thin times." ? It's a lovely story about needing to gather more than just food to survive the winter. But it also reminds us about how the seasons are a cycle. I think it's a perfect & hopeful story for the pandemic. ❤
How did I never encounter this as a child?! What a beautiful book with a beautiful message: every person has something special to contribute and you can solve problems in unique ways depending on your unique strengths. I love this!
The other mice learn to value Frederick‘s tho it differs from the kind of work they do gathering food for winter. When they are stuck in the winter gloom Frederick‘s gift of poetry and his ability to evoke the colors of spring for the other mice is a valuable contribution like the physical sustenance. Sweet, simple drawings. #bbrc #picturebooksatoz #letterF
This story is cute because it rhymes and it makes children think about all the seasons and how they happen.
Frederick is a Caldecott winning book written by Leo Lionni. This story is about a little mouse named Frederick with his other friends. This story gives children insight on animals during wintertime.
this sweet story about a field mouse who stores up his vivid memories of summer to warm his extended family come winter is a reminder of the importance of embracing your gifts.
“Fredrick why don‘t you work? They asked “I do work,” said Fredrick “I gather sun rays for the cold dark winter days”
Frederick by Leo Lionni is a Caldecott winning book that was published in 1987. This book is about a mouse named Fredrick who wants to be a poet and is trying to help prepare his family for the cold winter. Fredrick memorizes the best of the summer when the cold gray winter starts. The children will appreciate what Fredrick teaches his family in this book.

Childhood books #24in48 challenge
My actual childhood copies are at my parents' house, but these are a few things I have at my house related to my favorite children's book author/illustrators! Stuffed Frederick (from the Leo Lionni book) is my number one mouse bro, and my mom and I have kept and collected every title and version of Leo Lionni and Eric Carle titles we can find. @24in48
This Caldecott award winning (1937) F book “Frederick” is great for SR. This story has a theme of spirit and how simple things can help you survive in hard situations. This story is great for students to analyze the main character while being creative! http://users.manchester.edu/student/jnhamm/Profweb/My_Choice_Trade_Books[1].pdf
Frederick by Leo Lionni is a great book to GR! It won‘t the Caldecott Honor Award and it is such a wonderful TL book. The story is about how the mice are all preparing for winter, but Frederick was not helping. However, his stories are what lifts the spirits of everyone during the winter. The UDL that I think is best for the book is 6.1 because their end goal is to make it through the winter and the listed spirits and happiness they received from
This traditional literature, Frederick by Leo Lionni, won the Caldecott Honor award and it would be a simple book to GR. This book is about Frederick and his family getting ready to prepare themselves for the winter. But Frederick collects something different such as, the sun, colors of the rainbow and words. When the family didn‘t have anything to share or to say, Frederick shares the words and things he collected to lift their spirits.

A story about a little mouse! Reminds me of myself, a little lazy! Ha :) This book has awesome illustration and would be a fun read for students. It teaches how to do things and use ingenuity to keep his other friends nice and warm! Some Teaching strategies that can be incorporated in the classroom are RA, AS, RT, CR, PR!
Frederick by Leo Lionni is a (F) (Caldecott Honor) book about group of field mice who are getting ready for winter. Everyone is working hard collecting food and preparing, but Frederick seems to be in his own little world, not at all concerned with the work to be done. This book would be perfect for a(DR) or readers theatre. UDL strategy 5.3 is a match for this plan because performance and retreading help build fluency!
I read this animal F book as a brain break from studying, and it conveys a deep message that even younger kids could understand. The book follows a short story of five mice who are preparing for winter. While the four mice work to supply food, the fifth one prepares for the cold months. in a way that no one expected. It carries the message that it takes more than food and shelter to survive: it takes a creative spirit too! #UCFLAE3414SP18
1. Anything by Leo Lionni, I have several of the Kohl‘s plushies of his characters.
2. My stuffed Panda who still wears one of the cloth diapers my grandma made for my critters, he might have come to college with me...and fit right in w/my roommate‘s giant cow.
3. Probably pancakes, or crab rangoons b/c we just stood around the stove & ate them as they got done frying.
4. Either, as long as it has a 3:1 frosting:baked good ratio. 😬

This P pb, as we spoke in class poetry is an acquired taste that may diminish over time, and this story is a fun way to engage students into poetry with an RT to have participation. The Udl I would use is 3.2 and El:36 http://study.com/academy/lesson/frederick-by-leo-lionni-lesson-plan.html #ucflae3414f17
While searching through the bookstore to find some children's books that I could use for it let's see project I came across the book Frederick. This book is a fantastic read for young readers. This book tells a tale about a mouse who instead of gathering food for the winter collects different types of colors and words to help him cheer up the other mice during the winter storm.#ucflae3414f17
#ucflae3414f17 Alexander and the Wind-Up movie is a Caldecott award-winning F book by Leo Lion. This story tells of a mouse who meets a toy wind-up mouse that is loved by all, and wishes to become a wind-up mouse himself. He meets a lizard with powers to change him into one, but instead of changing himself into a wind-up mouse, he changes his new friend into a real mouse. This book would be perfect for a GR and the link at the bottom of this post
This is a P genre that was awarded a Caldecott in 1968 by Leo lionni and the strategies that I would use are RT and SR.

Frederick by Leo Lionni is a F Caldecott medal winner book. A good teaching strategy to go along with this book would be S. This book is about a mouse, Frederick, who sits on a rock as the other mice collect food for the upcoming winter. The other mice think Frederick isn‘t doing his part but he ends up saving the day when they run out of food and survive off of what he collected. UDL 1.3 offer alternatives for visual information #ucflae3414f17
Frederick is a picture book written and illustrated by Leo Lionni, and the winner of the 1968 Caldecott award. This book would work well with RA, DR, IR, and SR. Frederick is a field mouse who sits around while his brothers are gathering food for the winter. Frederick‘s brothers assume Frederick is lazy and does not want to help, but Frederick is gathering other items for the winter. #ucflae3414
This TL book is such a cute heartwarming book about a mouse who feels their is more to life than doing chores for the upcoming winter with his mouse friends and to be thought as lazy throughout the book. But to his mouse friends surprise he tells them of the colors of the warm sun to help warm them and gifts them many words so they would never run out of things to say during the harsh winter. It is a cute twist at the end. #UCFLAE3414su17
Loved this book when I was little. I don't know whatever happened to that one so I bought myself a new one. #ChildhoodReads #RiotGrams
