This book just made me realize that I‘m a mood reader. Going into this after reading Zodiac Academy is like stepping out of a jacuzzi on a cold winter night. Don‘t go into this expecting an action packed dystopian story. It‘s a contemporary book with thriller elements along with a dystopian backdrop. I love McGinnis‘ writing style so this won‘t be the only thing I read from her. The plot kept escalating and dropping and I felt lukewarm about some+
I just finished tagged book. I will post a review once I gather my thoughts. Jumping straight to another one 😊💪 What are you CR?

Plot has somewhat picked up since my last update. I gotta say— I really loved this section right here and I HAD to share it (FYI- Lynn, the MC, was raised in the woods oblivious to the outside world, that‘s why she has no clue what flirting is)
Hey, so you know how I said I was going back into the swing of reading? I jinxed it 😆😆🥲🥲 formatting and editing has taken 95% of my time. I‘ve been trying my best to make wiggle room for this book. This is one that I‘ve been looking forward to since 2015 so I came to it with high expectations. Maybe they were a little too high bc I‘m having mixed feelings so far. Perhaps 14 yo me would‘ve loved this but I‘ve been getting into +
I thought this was a pretty good and realistic dystopian story. In a world where water is scarce, a teen girl and her mom do what they have to protecting their home and small pond.
This author writes interesting YA thrillers.
This is a hard one for me to put my finger on. I liked the narration. I liked the story a decent amount. I liked the character growth. I disliked the pacing. There were long stretches of overly descriptive parts and then when the action happened, there was so little description that I often lost what was actually happening during the action. 👇 cont in comments

This isn't one of my normal genres, but I'm a fan of the author and decided to give it a shot. Set in a dystopian future where water is scarce and the earth is wild, this YA story pulls no punches with nail-biting suspense and plenty of tension. It center's on one girl's fight for survival, and the ways she's forced to grow. Not my favorite by this author, but good.
Although I enjoyed this I can‘t see me reading the 2nd book 3⭐️ really liked the concept and how realistic it felt as an apocalyptic-type situation
I‘ve only managed 4 prompts between July- Sept but they‘ve just been by chance so I‘m pretty pleased think I‘ll be able to check off another one soon as well I‘m gonna try and put in some effort for these last months 🤞#booked2019 @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft
Mindy McGinnis's debut novel is astonishing. Her protagonist Lynn, who has grown up in a world where water is scarce and she knows only her mother, a hard, pragmatic woman who prioritizes her daughter over everyone else. Lynn's coming of age requires her to consider issues of survival vs. compassion, self vs. community, and safety vs. caring/vulnerability. Amazing, bleak young adult novel reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's The Road in its spareness.
I loved this and couldn‘t wait to see how it would end. The Wild West feel was original captivating. I loved the MC Lynn and watching her mature and adapt to her changing situation.
There is an event near the end that broke my heart but I enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.
Mindy McGinnis got me again. 😢 She got me first with The Female of the Species and now this. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A huge thank you to @melrailey for the wonderful #dystopianblues package. I look forward to the great reads! This could not have had better timing. Yesterday, my dad went to the ER with heart issues (he is home now) and our Bishop quit for not great reasons. It was a rough day yesterday. Thank you for today!
I thought this was written so realistically. I could totally picture myself right along side the main character the entire time.
The seven days seven books challenge!! The challenge is to post seven books you love for seven days. No explanation, no review and no information on the book needed. Just a book you love!

Finally getting round to this from @Itchyfeetreader
Goes well with homemade Halloween apple pie. I've accidentally doubled up on the post apocalyptic fiction this week. This, and Unnamed Midwife on the Kindle.
A very believable dystopian story of survival. While other books in the same genre seem unlikely to happen in the real world, this one actually makes you pause, think what if? and be ever grateful for the water running in your pipes! I like the way the book ended so not too eager to read the sequel.
I picked this up because it was crazy overdue and I knew I could read it quickly and return it. I didnt expect to like it nearly as much as I did. Female of the Species prepared me for the ruthlessness of McGinnis' teenage heroines, so Lynn read as resourceful more than brutal.
The only thing I cant decide is if the book's frequent mention of sexual violence in their dystopian world was unecessary or not. I guess I'll go with not.
I got this one for 1€ at our library's permanent sale. It started off strong and good, but went a little downhill by adding a unnecessary love interest and a kind of rushed ending. Still a pick, though.
