I apparently bought this in 2014 so it‘s taken a while for me to get to it but thought it would be my ancient option for #booked22 I am. It going to lie this is an odd little book. Beautiful lyrical story telling and language but perhaps a little too out there are literary for me. I am a tad confused by the ending !

Not even one of my favorite authors could connect me to this myth. The side character I did feel interested in? Hera.

Thought provoking and philosophical. A re-writing of a popular myth from a modern perspective. How much do we understand of the world around us and its infinite possibilities? How far are we constrained by the worlds we create in our minds and their imagined boundaries?

Between a pick and a so-so for me. I love and have always loved Winterson‘s prose and I think she did a great job balancing crass and elegance in this myth. I liked her interpretation of Atlas‘s thought process and I found her handling of Heracles‘s character really quite hilarious. #myth #retelling

I love retellings of mythology, and I love legends. I think stories like these are crucial to our understanding of our humanness. I think that if we allow myth to languish in the ancient past and in ancient words we lose that understanding. Also Winterson‘s prose is the perfect match for Atlas‘s story. #mythology #myth

So we are set to get 10-30 cm of snow in the next day or two 😲. Therefore I am hibernating this morning and starting this book. (I‘m still working on the Vandermeer, but left it in the car last night and will not be trudging out to get it). #dogsoflitsy #spousesoflitsy

I might regret going for another Greek retelling hot on the heels (pun totally unintended) of The Song of Achilles but it's Jeanette Winterson and she's already killing it on the first page #24in48
