Animorphs #1: The Invasion
Animorphs #1: The Invasion | K. A. Applegate
13 posts | 36 read | 4 to read
The wildly popular series by K.A. Applegate is back! The first six books of Animorphs return, with striking new lenticular covers that morph. The Earth is being invaded, but no one knows about it. When Jake, Rachel, Tobias, Cassie, and Marco stumble upon a downed alien spaceship and its dying pilot, they're given an incredible power -- they can transform into any animal they touch. With it, they become Animorphs, the unlikely champions in a secret war for the planet. And the enemies they're fighting could be anyone, even the people closest to them. So begins K.A. Applegate's epic series about five normal kids with a limitless amount of forms and abilities.

This is the tumblr post that made me curious enough about Animorphs to actually pick one up and start reading… from the comments on the original post - option number 3 is the “not true” statement because the character was in more than 2 books…

I‘m looking forward to the “parasitic alien slugs can get addicted to Instagram at oatmeal” storyline 😝

The second audiobook just came through for me on Libby today… so will be back into it soon

julesG Gah, do you have to post about intriguing books so often? 6mo
BiblioLitten That‘s the one that‘s got me most curious too! Instant oatmeal and aliens! 😁 6mo
BookmarkTavern Hahahaha! What a fantastic poll. 😂 6mo

I didn‘t read these when I was a kid because the covers freaked me out… but I saw the audiobook on Libby and decided to give it a go - and IT‘S SO GOOD! Quite a bit happens in the first instalment - starting with coming across a dying alien who gives them the ability to morph - and charges them with saving humanity. My favourite part involved a tiger enclosure. There are 54 books in the main series, potentially as action packed as this one!

BookmarkTavern I read all these books as a kid! They are intense! 💕 6mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @BookmarkTavern, Tobias losing his ability to morph back into his human body in book 1 was a surprise (not so much that it happened, more that it happened in book 1) he didn‘t even make it to his POV book. Can‘t wait to see what other storylines will crop up in a series of such epic length. 6mo
BookmarkTavern These are all a wild ride. I need to go through some boxes and see if I still have my scholastic fair copies. Thanks for reminding me of these! 6mo

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @BookmarkTavern 🤞🏼for still having scholastic fair copies! 6mo
peanutnine I loved this series as a kid! I could see how the covers would have freaked you out though, they are intense 6mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @peanutnine, I wish I‘d given it a go back then. 6mo
BiblioLitten I would see these in the school library and never had any inclination to pick them up! 😄😄 6mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @BiblioLitten, I‘m only picking them up now because I read a tumblr post that was like “guess which one of these wasn‘t an animorphs plot line” and then listed a bunch of the wildest plot lines you could imagine… and then not too long after, I saw that they were available on Libby as audiobooks… 6mo
BiblioLitten The cover itself indicates the wild plot lines! 6mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @BiblioLitten, the cover barely scratches the surface. I‘ll have to see if I can find the tumblr post about animorph storylines that made me curious about it… 6mo

A spontaneous audio download because my local library has suddenly added the whole series to the catalogue. This was a really fun blast from the past. Ticked all my nostalgia boxes.

On Episode 210 of my book podcast, author Ashley Poston and I prove that it‘s never too late to catch up on the pop culture that the cool kids were consuming approximately 20 years ago. 🙈 In our conversation about the first book in the ANIMORPHS series, we touch on mall hangs, the blurry lines between middle grade and YA, things that creep us out, dog behavior, metaphors for puberty, horse girls, and more. ✨ Listen at the link in my bio!

BookmarkTavern Yeeesss! Animorphs! 2y

5/5
A great series for younger readers, especially ones who aren‘t too keen on reading. Each book has a morphing window cover that peeks at the next full page color image, and a flipbook style morph illustration at the edge of each page.

The Invasion is basically the Animorphs origin story. It‘s surprisingly full of action and world-building for its size. There are touching moments and chuckle-worthy humor. Written for kids, but still a fun read.

Gosh, I am days behind on #startreksummermay ! Let's see if I can speed round it. First up: Conspiracy! Do I wish there had been more gross slug aliens? I mean, sure - I read every single Animorph book, so I'll always want more slug conspiracies. (Though I must admit, I think this book series for children handled this plot better than TNG would have.)

#OctPhotoChallenge Day 17. One of my favorite 90s book series had a (very late) 90s television show which translated to a (very weird) line of transforming toys.

Animorphs had a lot of characters but the one I remember being drawn to the most was Cassie.

LibrarianRyan I so remember these books. Last year they started to reprint them with new covers. 8y
booksandcats13 @LibrarianRyan I read about that! I think the part that amused me the most was the fact that they updated the pop culture references when they reprinted. 8y
