Victory of Eagles
Victory of Eagles: A Novel of Temeraire | Naomi Novik
Naomi Noviks triumphant debut, His Majestys Dragon, introduced a dynamic new pair of heroes to the annals of fantasy fiction: the noble fighting dragon Temeraire and his master and commander, Capt. Will Laurence, who serves Britains peerless Aerial Corps in the thick of the raging Napoleonic Wars. Now, in the latest novel of this dazzling series, they soar to new heights of breathtaking action and brilliant imagination. It is a grim time for the dragon Temeraire. On the heels of his mission to Africa, seeking the cure for a deadly contagion, he has been removed from military serviceand his captain, Will Laurence, has been condemned to death for treason. For Britain, conditions are grimmer still: Napoleons resurgent forces have breached the Channel and successfully invaded English soil. Napoleons prime objective: the occupation of London. Separated by their own government and threatened at every turn by Napoleon s forces, Laurence and Temeraire must struggle to find each other amid the turmoil of war and to aid the resistance against the invasion before Napoleons foothold on Englands shores can become a stranglehold. If only they can be reunited, master and dragon might rally Britains scattered forces and take the fight to the enemy as never beforefor king and country, and for their own liberty. But can the French aggressors be well and truly routed, or will a treacherous alliance deliver Britain into the hands of her would-be conquerors? BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Naomi Novik's Tongues of Serpents.

Am I the only one reading this series who finds Laurence to be an insufferable twat? He literally refused to perform genocide at the end of the last book, and spends this entire book moping about it/sighing that he deserves to be killed for treason. To me, if you believe that what you did was right, then just blindly accepting the punishment for it makes no sense. Still an enjoyable read, but I'm here for Temeraire, not Eeyore-Laurence 😂

TheSpineView Fabulous! 9mo
Clare-Dragonfly I haven‘t gotten this far but Temeraire (and all the other dragons) is definitely much more of a draw than Laurence 😂 9mo

RamsFan1963 I never finished the series for that reason. Loved the dragons, loathed the humans 9mo
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly @RamsFan1963 - Like I kind of get it, but at the same time... it just feels like Laurence wants to be a martyr to his country all the time 🙄 9mo
SonjaBolon Laurence is a product of his time and culture so I give him that. I‘m there for Temeraire and learning about how humans and dragons coexist in different parts of the world! Japanese and South American dragons were both very different from each other as were their relationships with the humans. Africa surprised me in a good way! The whole series has turned my perception about us humans on its head! Naomi is good at helping us imagine anew! 8mo

This series is great. Historical fiction, Napoleonic era, with dragons. The author has an impressive imagination. This is the fifth book in the series. I would definitely recommend reading them in order.

I love these books, and this one and the one before have been my favorites since book one. Seeing Laurence and Temeraire work out what to do since being accused of treason was thrilling and stressful. I love these books. 🐉😍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Napoleon invades England!
I found this more compelling in the beginning but I still read it to the end and want to continue the series.

Napoleon has landed in England! Temeraire has been sent to the dragon breeding grounds and Laurence is still alive, but only to keep Temeraire on good behavior. It's going to take all their ingenuity to rejoin forces and get the Corsican out of London.

Only one more book to reread, and then it's all new to me from here! If you enjoy audiobooks, Simon Vance's narration is superb.

I'm suffering from a mixture of hay-fever and a cold, so I think it must be time to hide under some blankets and read.
And can I just take this chance to say how beautiful these covers are?

I started out reading, doing laundry, and a few other things. But once the halftime show was over, it was all about watching the game!

#emojinov day 14: 🇬🇧
While Novik isn't British, she's set this series mostly in Europe, with its main (human) character an English captain of the Aerial Corps. This isn't the Napoleonic wars as we know it, for the Air Force is one made up of dragons. And Temeraire is the very best of dragons, an intelligent, intellectual one fond of books and learning, yet also fearless and rare in that he's a Chinese dragon

RealLifeReading This is the fifth book in the series. It begins with 7y

2017 #57 fantasy audio so the journey continues and ends with another one beginning. Liked it but the societal commentary was annoying but that might have been the point. +

Continuing the series- this book was focused on the battlefield. This is still a fascinating alternative history of the Napoleonic Wars

Well done well done. I really enjoy these books. They are like a guilty pleasure of fantasy, dragon wars and old British narrators.

This book series keeps me coming back! I love the audiobook and find the characters amusing and intriguing! Dragons and aviators, battles and wars between countries, it's so fun! (And more adult and less Eragon)
