A groundbreaking guide to raising responsible, capable, happy kids Based on the latest research on brain development and extensive clinical experience with parents, Dr. Laura Markham s approach is as simple as it is effective. Step-by-step examples give solutions and kid-tested phrasing for parents of toddlers rightthrough the elementary years. If you re tired of power struggles, tantrums, and searching for the right consequence, look no further. You re about to discover the practical tools you need to transform your parenting in a positive, proven way."

Mehso-so

I skimmed this one quite a bit and even skipped entire chapters. At first I thought this was going to be for parents of kids of all ages, and there are some topics that can be extended to older kids, but quite a bit was focused on toddler/preschool age. My kids are 12 and 8, so I felt I was wasting my time reading certain parts. Overall though I liked most of the advice, especially about emotional coaching and regulating our own emotions.

Other than the bare minimum (which unfortunately includes laundry), I plan to do nothing else but lounge around journaling and reading today. It‘s been a while since I‘ve had a relaxing Sunday, they‘re usually spent finishing up schoolwork (my assignments are always due Sunday night).

“At the core, every choice is between love and fear. Choose love as often as you can. Every day you get fresh chances to interact with your child in a way that heals both of you.”

I‘m loving the advice in this book so far. I thought maybe it was too late to read something like this, my kids are 12 and 8. But if I can learn to be more calm and model my own emotion regulation for them from here on out, it can only benefit them in the long run.

I‘m still currently reading #theoctunnumi but this is my next nonfiction read. It‘s been on my shelf for a while, and after the year we‘ve had I think we could all benefit from me reading it finally lol.

Well since I finished my “fun” book and the library is closed until tomorrow I guess it‘s time to improve my parenting #parentingbooks #ihopethishelps #toddlersarenightmares #minime #karma #mymomslaughing #bookworm #selfimprovement #2018

Mshookquilts Does it have good advice? 7y
FeatherV So far yeah, I just finished part 1, I‘m a lot slower with this kind of book. But it gives good tips on how to calm down before you start yelling at them 7y
Mshookquilts Well, that‘s always helpful. 7y
FeatherV It is! I‘m taking notes lol 7y

Since giving up twitter, I've lost some venting space. Love when I put down the baby for a nap and the girls are downstairs screaming. 😡 So now I'm dealing with stir crazy kids and a non-napping baby. Without daddy to help. Trying so so so hard to be patient and not yell. A difficult concept I did not understand until I was a parent.

Godmotherx5 Miss you on Twitter. Hope the day improves. 8y
Samantha.1020 I didn't realize you weren't on Twitter but I've been staying away from it as well to be honest. It gets better, I promise :) I remember those days! 8y
BethFishReads 💗sending good thoughts. I miss you 8y

SusaninTX It does get better, but man! Those were hard days. I used to try and see how soft I could talk when I wanted to yell...it really got their attention at first. Hang in there! 8y
Chrisbookarama Hugs Trish! It's tough but hold on for the good days. I haven't been on twitter either. I do miss having a place to vent but it's better for my health to stay away. 8y
TriniCapini @BethFishReads @SusaninTX @Chrisbookarama thanks ladies! Slowly making my way back onto twitter but keeping it off my phone. But it has made for good reading time! 😜 8y
irisonbooks Did not know you quit twitter. Gah, I still haven't figured out how to/where to vent when it comes to parenting. So difficult not to respond frustrated sometimes, isn't it? Cue lots of guilt when son says: "I do love you mama, you should not be angry, you should be happy." But then I have to do the angry voice sometimes to make him listen. :-( 8y
TriniCapini @irisonbooks oh well...I've started popping back on twitter during the day...but haven't put it on my phone again. And yes, I know. I've been trying SO hard to speak calmly but sometimes that only goes so far. :( 8y

I'm a stay at home mom to four kidlets, so these pretty much sum up my #workplacebooks. We have one with special needs (ADHD, ODD & SPD) as well as a very blended family. It's intense, trying, exhausting and perfect for us 💜

AThousandLives87 I've got 3 close in age and I know it's hectic! Ah, the books I've read over the years....only to find out that one is Autistic and another is depressed. It's life for us. No book seems to help. 8y
