Is it weird that I felt bad for the birds after a while? The premise is catchy, but swearing and making deprecating remarks as a thin veil over providing facts about different birds gets old after a while. Might be an obvious point, but, I think if, unlike me, you're actually looking for a bird guide, there are better out there. As a comic exercise, this wore thin. And the inexplicable section on extinct birds was just depressing. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Trash talk all he wants, author couldn't help but sketch this 'lil dude in all its adorable-ness.

Karisa Funny and beautiful at the same time! Love it! 12mo

The snark! The fact that I was drifting off into nap land is entirely coincidental. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Am I planning to go birdwatching any time soon? No.
Do I need this particular writing style in my life right now? Yes. 😂

I love gifting books and puzzling out the perfect book for the perfect person! I don't have one specific book I love to gift because I always try to tailor it to what I think that person will enjoy. But I did once gift a book to my brother in law who isn't a big reader. He was grumbling but when he realized it was a book about ridiculous bird names he finally understood why I'd gotten it for him 😂

BookmarkTavern I love the name of this book so much. 😂 Thanks for answering! 1y

Since we moved into our new home last summer, I have fallen in love with birdwatching in our backyard. This book should not have made me laugh as hard as it did, but something about the snarky comments woven in with actual facts about birds made me giggle. Heads up, there is a lot of profanity. If that doesn‘t bother you, be prepared to laugh through this quick read.

BookNAround This book is a crack up. 2y
AvidReader25 @BookNAround I kept reading sections aloud to my husband because I kept laughing aloud. 🤣 1y

Exhibit 2: The giant messy mess of a nest made by Carolina wrens. What the heck do they have in there, a bowling alley?
My daughter, a park ranger, knew what this was because they recently found a similar nest IN the cab of one of the park vehicles. It was out of commission for two weeks until the eggs hatched. 😅

mabell A bowling alley 🤣🤣 How cool your daughter is a park ranger! 2y
Aimeesue @mabell She loves it! She‘s out leading a canoe paddle today! 🛶 2y

Exhibit 1: This Robin, who built a nest underneath our 2nd floor deck, so that the bird-Murder ing dog who lives here HEARS her from above and then tries to claw her way through the deck. You‘d think word would get ‘round about her burdering ways, but clearly not.

jlhammar 😂 Great photo. Good luck, robin! 2y
Aimeesue @jlhammar She‘s gonna need it - the dog is OBSESSED now. 😂 2y

Such a goofy book. I think someone who is actually into bird watching would get a kick out of it.

BookNAround This one and its sequel both entertained me quite a bit. 2y
Patchshank @BookNAround I had no idea there was a sequel. I need to keep my eyes out for it. Such a funny read. 2y
wisherwishinguponastar This came in at my bookstore and I bothered my coworkers with the portions I thought were hilarious for a very long time until a customer bought it! 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a gift two Christmases ago from my avid “birder” step-MIL. Wish I‘d read it sooner. It‘s a funny little read. There‘s real information in this guide but it‘s presented casually and in a very snarky manner. The sketches are great, too. An all-around amusing read!

Soubhiville This is sitting on my TBR shelf. One of these days I‘ll have to do more than flip through and laugh at the names and drawings! 3y
britt_brooke @Soubhiville Think about picking it up next time you need a good laugh. It‘s a quick one! 3y
Cinfhen I think @MicheleinPhilly reviewed this a while back and I‘m pretty sure she loved it too!! 3y

britt_brooke @Flaneurette I‘m so happy to hear! 3y
britt_brooke @MicheleinPhilly @Cinfhen That one looks fun, too! Damn birds! 😂 3y
janeycanuck @britt_brooke @MicheleinPhilly @cinfhen I haven‘t read the book but have two very cheeky shirts and one mug from Effin‘ Birds that have had non-stop use since the pandemic started. I just have to be very careful I‘m only visible from the shoulders up on work calls! 3y

A snarky and filled with profanity look at birds. You need a specific type of humor to enjoy this and I guess I don't have it. That's probably why it took me so long to finish. Book 1 of 3 finished towards my goal for the #20in4 Readathon. @Andrew65

Andrew65 Looks a different type of book. 3y

This is hilarious. It is definitely a dip into and out of book because it may be too much of the same joke over and over if read in one sitting but well worth the giggles it provided me. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2019/09/review-field-guide-to-dumb-birds-of.htm...

alisiakae This is one of the Humor nominees for the Goodreads Choice Awards. Looks fun! 5y
CaitZ I too enjoy birds and have the same problem actually seeing them in trees. This sounds like a book I would like. Thanks for the review. 5y

This book is giving me the giggles. I am not a birder and know next to nothing about identifying them but I do enjoy watching our feathered friends from time to time. Maybe this field guide will change that and I‘ll be able to add a Red-Winged Buttwad or a Great Grey Shite to my life list. 😂
