panThis committed the mortal sin of not being half as clever as it thought it was 😬 if you‘re gonna open with a prologue about how no one else does vampires in an interesting way, I really expect you to come up with something better than completely unexamined themes, a Mary Sue priest MC, a lot of gratuitous sexual assault but no actual scares or scary atmosphere, and completely unprompted Islamophobia and antisemitism
pickA priest, a rabbi, a nun, and an atheist lesbian walk into a.... fantastic book. I thought it was the inspiration for the Netflix series of the same name, but it's not. An excellent old school vampire story. Reminiscent of OG Stephen King. The first half was perfection, the second half was good.
panI listened to this on Audible. The narrator was FANTASTIC- one of the best I‘ve heard. The book, however, is a different story. The 1st part was great- the plot & characters kept me going. Super heavy on Catholicism, but had an amazing Rabbi character. The second half felt like it was an excuse to be misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic, and when they got to NYC SUPER islamophobic. There‘s also a graphic gangr*pe not imperative to the plot. 2.25/5

We binged this over the past couple of days. It‘s so good! The writing is really brilliant. Now back to my reading….

Finally watched all 7 episodes of Midnight Mass on Netflix. While I did enjoy it I definitely don‘t think it was as good as The Haunting of Hill house or The Haunting of Bly Manor (same director and lots of the same actors). Still enjoyable though! 36 points for #teamslaughter #scarathlon2021

#goodwill bookhaul Very excited to find the folio society edition of Greek myths I and II. It's in like new condition! Another Pratchett for my collection and a new to me author. Always on the lookout for a good horror novel.
pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I received this book as a Christmas gift from my brother years ago. It is entertaining and scary as hell. Still read it every year about Christmastime. This was written when Vampires were still terrifying monsters before the Douche Vamp culture was born.
