Insightful
The quote on the cover is worth its own post.
“I have not written a novel for seven years, but I hope to write another fairly soon. It is bound to be a failure...”
His next novel was 1984.

Personally speaking, it gets too much after a certain point. Some aspects and parts of the book are good and relatable but it mostly is a book of moaning!
I had a little bit too much to drink last night so not feeling great today so treated myself to a book shop visit to stock up on books before we go on holiday. #orwell #orwellian #politics #personaljourney #holidayreads
"Patriotism is usually stronger than class-hatred, and always stronger than any kind of internationalism"
I'm not sure what I think about that, Orwell writes about how the whole of England came together to fight in the war despite internal divisions. It's interesting how some of what he says can be applied to current goings on. It's sad to think that it takes the horrors of war to unite people.
So behind on my reading but enjoying it when I can
Just to show my ignorance I had thought that "Stormtrooper" was an invention by George Lucas and not an actual designation for a specialized group of German soldiers ? I need to read more history.

It wasn't what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it - and the last essay made me giggle aloud on the train. I admit that I was hoping it would rejuvenate the writing urge in me. It didn't do that, but it did renew my desire to keep fighting politically.
"In any case I find that by the time you have perfected any style of writing, you have always outgrown it."
Whether puncturing the lies of politicians or telling unpalatable truths about wars, Orwell's uncompromising essays are more relevant and essential than ever in today's era of spin.

"What I have wanted to do throughout the past ten years is to make political writing into an art."
This is only of the essays that was a treat to read.
