The Midnight Hour | Benjamin Read, Laura Trinder
4 posts | 8 read | 5 to read
'Fans of Nevermoor will love this quirky debut, fizzing with humour, scares and vivid world-building.' THE BOOKSELLER Emily's parents have vanished into the secret world of the Midnight Hour - a Victorian London frozen in time - home to magic and monsters. Emily must find them in the city of the Night Folk, armed only with a packed lunch, a stowaway hedgehog and her infamously big mouth. With bloodthirsty creatures on her tail, Emily has to discover the truth to rescue her parents. What family secret connects her to the Midnight Hour? And can she save both worlds before she runs out of sandwiches?

This is another example of people mixing up “strong female lead“ with “ill-mannered brat“. I couldn't stand Emily from page 1. It got a little better when I swapped to the English audio book. The world Read and Trinder created is beautiful and enchanting and for me the only reason to MAYBE read another book in this series. But it'll need a lot for me to to that...

#owlcratejr unboxing! My daughter LOVES getting her monthly book mail. The books have all been fantastic so far. Lots of cute goodies too. This month she got a wind up froggie flashlight, monster socks, bat stuffed animal, puzzle, monster eraser pen, origami bookmark, and of course a signed copy of the tagged book all to match the theme “Bump in the Night”. Next month‘s theme is “Code Breakers”. Can‘t wait! Soooo fun!!😍😍😍😍
