When writing a book, it's hard to top a book that's so well written. The writer has done such a brilliant job at every aspect of it. Clearly one of my favourites, and a must must read.
It continues exactly where the first part ended, and brings us to the end of Vladek and Anja's sad sad story.

incredible book, so beautiful and heartbreaking

I've read Spiegelman's first book MAUS: My Father Bleeds History. I enjoyed it, and I would like to continue the series.

Had the doggie super upset because I wasn't paying attention to him and reading instead! #DogsOfLitsy Such a great book.

So powerful, haunting, and incredible. This is such an emotional read, and well worth it for sure.

This second part was definitely harder to chew. More nudity, gore and stark then first half, which was barely an introduction. Here we have the fathers account of being in the camp. The scene about the showers is haunting. His true story reveals the holocaust‘s dark truth in a new form. I think people try to forget these horrors, no matter the “never forget”; need to remember it all now more then ever
Let history offend you, you won‘t repeat it

This is just so much brutal honesty. The holocaust is horrific, & we are horrible to each other still. Interpersonally and communally, we live with so much cognitive dissonance.

5⭐️ Read these for the first time in 20 years this coming fall for a Holocaust history course in university and just as the first time, I quite enjoyed them. I realize the topic isn‘t enjoyable but how the author broached the topic was excellent and very approachable. The second half of the Vladek Spiegelman's harrowing experience at Auschwitz is just as good as the first volume. Many are familiar with Anne Frank's experience but this gives you an account of one man who struggled & suffered but survived and how his past affects his future behaviors. This should be required reading. Heartbreaking, disturbing, and enlightening. @TheAromaofBooks This is my official #bookspin book for July.

I think about this page from Maus II: And Here My Troubles Began, a lot. As the daughter and granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, this page speaks to me on so many levels. It‘s so complex, I wrote my MA thesis about it.

I had to move quickly into this one after Maus I because it was that good. People who say graphic novels are immature have clearly never picked one up. This is deep, intense, painful, funny, insightful, and moving. Everything good literature should be. These graphic novels hit me in the gut and invoked so many different feelings. Art‘s complicated relationship with Vladek hit me. The artwork alone is powerful.

A fantastic conclusion. This is complex and sad and funny and hopeful and desperate and depressing, all at once. The art is a means to an end here. It allows the story to be told, putting some distance between the reader and the horror. An amazing book.

The Complete Maus is not a huge book and even with black and wight color it took 13 years to complete it. Why do you think it took so long? Why with all success does Art have a writing block to start the second part?

I couldn't stop after Maus I, and ended up staying up til midnight to finish both books.

This is obviously not a light or easy read, but it's incredibly good as the author grapples with the past and present. There's a reason this is a graphic novel classic, and its definitely worth checking out.

Celebrated my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary today. Had a moment to myself to read a little.

There are so many layers in this story. I appreciate the father-son dynamic and the struggle Art had in writing this. #13inThree 💔

I liked Maus 1 better but this was still an important read. I liked the #graphicnovel format for this story as it made the horror and sadness stand out, yet the author didn‘t overwhelm us with the images either. #worldwar2 #historical #worldwarii #nonfiction2018

Just as good as the first. Looking for any other graphic novel recommendations that anyone might have.

The second and final book in the series, this one seemed to read faster than the first one. This installment details Art's fathers time in the concentration camps and his subsequent liberation. From the description of the camps, it is amazing that anyone came out alive. The graphic format helps bring the tale to life. Really good read.

A very tragic conclusion to the Maus story. In the second part we see how Vladek survived the Nazi camp and united with his wife.

An epic story with illustrations that will chill your bones and force you to experience a reality harsher than any that humanity has seen.

How hard would this be to read, nevermind to write if this was your parent? It must have felt so outside anything you know about your parents. Reading this one a little at a time. It's a hard read.

As I edit my history paper the night before its due I can't help but dwell on the importance of knowing history, and making sure we learn from it.

Relevant.

Terrifying... especially now.

Just as I predicted after finishing the first volume, the second was completed in a day. The story, in whole, gives a very personal, very easily understood look at not only the main character's experience with the Nazi camps, but also glimpses into the experiences of those he met along the way. While not a pleasant topic, I am glad to have read these memoirs and will gladly recommend them to any who ask.

And I thought the first one ripped out your heart 😯😭

When I first read this part I thought it was so messed up, but I thought for a minute and realized how brutally honest it is. We'd all like to sit here and think how much better we are than that. If put in a situation like his, I think this thought would cross all of our minds.
