I really enjoyed her first book, so I was excited for this one. Unfortunately, it‘s just not working for me. It‘s billed as a thriller but isn‘t, the main character is a petulant brat I don‘t care to spend any more time with, and it‘s just starting to get more and more absurd. Disappointing.
I think my expectations were too high with this one. I wanted something scary, and even though parts of this made me a little on edge, overall it fell flat. The love story felt rushed and they were too dependent and needy which started to annoy me.
The descriptions of the sights and sounds of the jungle were the best part for me.
I absolutely LOVED this. Pulled me in right away, I finished it in one sitting...
First 50 pages are exclusively a boring love story. No thrills to be found.
@Soubhiville thank you so much! I totally caved and opened them early after you said I could 😬 and I‘m delighted! I‘m excited for both and may have squealed when I saw the tagged book. Plus the card is adorable. Thank you, thank you!
The atmosphere was great - I love a good jungle story. I didn‘t have a good sense of the main character - she seemed a bit generic as did many of the secondary characters. Still a solid page turner.
No, YOU spent 5 minutes googling sug arcane before it clicked #readingandwine
I have a thing for books about jungles. I think it‘s the risk and the heaviness and the sounds and the tricks it can play on you. Like it‘s alive.
Thank you Erica Ferencik for bringing me this novel that is magical and real and full of pain and sorrow and also hope. For this novel that took me into the jungle, to feel the humidity, the fear, the thrill, the curiosity, and the ever present astonishment you are nowhere you have been before.
Super in love with everything in this picture! We made chickpea flour pancakes topped with baby kale + chicken sausage + halloumi. Plus PEONIES! And, saving the best for last means this new #bookmail. I am dropping everything and reading this one. Right. Now.
I loved The River at Night, by the same author, so much that when I saw this on NetGalley I requested it without even bothering to read the synopsis. This book could be subtitled Everything You Never Thought You Wanted to Know About the Amazon Jungle. Talk about harsh living. I can't imagine I would last even a week in the conditions that Lily and Omar lived in. I didn't love it quite as much as The River at Night, but I did like it very much.
I loved The River at Night so so much that when I got an email from netgalley about this book I threw down my phone and ran to my computer to request it, even though I didn‘t expect my request to be approved. And it wasn‘t, for several days. I‘d given up hope when I got the email that it had been approved and I am so excited to dive into this!
SO excited about this book mail! Excuse me, while I do my little happy dance over here! Into The Jungle @ericaferencik @scout.press. I absolutely loved @ericaferencik first book The River At Night! If you haven‘t read it, I highly recommend it! Into The Jungle will be out 5/21/19!
