In this pulse-pounding thriller from the author of the haunting, twisting thrill-ride (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author) The River at Night, a young woman leaves behind everything she knows to take on the jungle of Bolivia, but her excursion abroad quickly turns into a fight for her life. Lily Buschwald is ready to live life on her own terms. After years in foster care, she is determined to leave behind everything she knows for the adventure of a lifetime: teaching English to a wealthy family in Cochabamba, Bolivia. But the program shes signed up for is a scam. Suddenly rudderless and broke, she begins a whirlwind romance with Omar, a savvy, handsome local whos left his life as a hunter in the remote jungle village to try city life. When Omar learns that a jaguar has killed his brothers child in Ayachero, he gives Lily a choice: stay alone in the unforgiving city, or marry him and travel to the last in an ever-isolated string of river towns. Love-struck Lily sees no option. She follows Omar to a ruthless new world of lawless poachers, heartless missionaries, and option-less indigenous tribes driven to the brink of survival. A far cry from the romantic life she imagined, Lily is forced to navigate the jungleand its residentsusing her wits and resilience. Primal, gripping, and terrifying, Into the Jungle features Erica Ferenciks signature visceral, white-knuckle (Entertainment Weekly) prose that will sink its fangs into you and not let go.

Bailedbailed

I really enjoyed her first book, so I was excited for this one. Unfortunately, it‘s just not working for me. It‘s billed as a thriller but isn‘t, the main character is a petulant brat I don‘t care to spend any more time with, and it‘s just starting to get more and more absurd. Disappointing.

Leftcoastzen 🐶cutie! 4y
Soubhiville Bummer. It‘s harder to bail on something you were really looking forward to, especially when you liked a previous book by the author. Oh well, plenty of other “books in the sea”! Hi Bindi! 4y
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville Bummer is the right word! The upside is I‘m learning the signs of when I need to bail a bit better. When I need to force myself to pick up a book and then I have trouble concentrating on it, it‘s time to say goodbye. I‘m loving the book I‘ve picked up next, so it‘s a win in the end! 4y
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville Oh and Bindi says hi! And please give me a treat! (So food driven, that one. 😆) 4y

Mehso-so

I think my expectations were too high with this one. I wanted something scary, and even though parts of this made me a little on edge, overall it fell flat. The love story felt rushed and they were too dependent and needy which started to annoy me.

The descriptions of the sights and sounds of the jungle were the best part for me.

Bailedbailed

First 50 pages are exclusively a boring love story. No thrills to be found.

@Soubhiville thank you so much! I totally caved and opened them early after you said I could 😬 and I‘m delighted! I‘m excited for both and may have squealed when I saw the tagged book. Plus the card is adorable. Thank you, thank you!

Soubhiville Yay! Happy early birthday! I hope they‘re both terrific. 🎂📚🐶💕 5y

The atmosphere was great - I love a good jungle story. I didn‘t have a good sense of the main character - she seemed a bit generic as did many of the secondary characters. Still a solid page turner.

I have a thing for books about jungles. I think it‘s the risk and the heaviness and the sounds and the tricks it can play on you. Like it‘s alive.

Thank you Erica Ferencik for bringing me this novel that is magical and real and full of pain and sorrow and also hope. For this novel that took me into the jungle, to feel the humidity, the fear, the thrill, the curiosity, and the ever present astonishment you are nowhere you have been before.

Super in love with everything in this picture! We made chickpea flour pancakes topped with baby kale + chicken sausage + halloumi. Plus PEONIES! And, saving the best for last means this new #bookmail. I am dropping everything and reading this one. Right. Now.

I loved The River at Night, by the same author, so much that when I saw this on NetGalley I requested it without even bothering to read the synopsis. This book could be subtitled Everything You Never Thought You Wanted to Know About the Amazon Jungle. Talk about harsh living. I can't imagine I would last even a week in the conditions that Lily and Omar lived in. I didn't love it quite as much as The River at Night, but I did like it very much.

I loved The River at Night so so much that when I got an email from netgalley about this book I threw down my phone and ran to my computer to request it, even though I didn‘t expect my request to be approved. And it wasn‘t, for several days. I‘d given up hope when I got the email that it had been approved and I am so excited to dive into this!
