Mister
Mister | E L James
The passionate new romance from E L James, author of the phenomenal #1 bestselling Fifty Shades Trilogy London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he's never had to work and he's rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family's noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It's a role he's not prepared for and one that he struggles to face. But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who's recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past. Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she's an alluring mystery, and Maxim's longing for her deepens into a passion that he's never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he's been hiding secrets of his own? From the heart of London through wild, rural Cornwall to the bleak, forbidding beauty of the Balkans, The Mister is a roller-coaster ride of danger and desire that leaves the reader breathless to the very last page.

I liked this one a lot better than I thought I would. While the plot was plausible, it is highly unlikely at least in all drama. That aside, I liked the rags to riches story for Alessia. I also liked the growth of Maxim as the story progressed. He was a Rogue with a capital R and Alessia unknowingly changes him. This story highlighted the power of love. There is some steamy scenes but not over done. The plot moved nicely and even though the...

Happy Saturday!!Starting a new read The Mister with a Firestone Mind Haze IPA 🍺.Love IPAs with high avc 😂. This one is yummy. I actually started this one last night at the same time I was watching Harry Styles performing at Coachella.Love 💕 him. I couldn‘t focus on the book though when I was watching Harry ☺️ Any thoughts on this book anyone? #themister #eljames #firestonebrewery #eroticromance #weekendreading #coachellareads #loveharrystyles

Tarrra_Lynnn I personally wasn‘t a fan of this one. I wanted to enjoy it, but just couldn‘t get into it. I actually got to meet her at a book signing event when I got this book - which was pretty cool! 3y
Beachbum @Tarrra_Lynnn I get what your saying about this book. It‘s her style of writing when she adds the character‘s “exclamations” which is kinda cheesy. It did take a while for me to get into but it in the end it was an o.k book. Definitely not a favorite but it felt like a chick flick, rom com cozy kinda story. I would have freaked out meeting her. That was cool ❤️ 3y
Tarrra_Lynnn Yes!! It was so neat meeting her! 3y

Starting off the 2021 reading list a tad sleazy! Surprisingly not a murder mystery...at least I don‘t think it is 🤷🏻‍♀️

THERE IS NO REASON THIS BOOK SHOULD BE ALMOST 500 PAGES LONG. (Also, seriously, it‘s just “Fifty Shades” all over again, except British!Christian likes to be touched, and Albanian-Maid!Ana doesn‘t constantly reference her ~inner goddess.~) #themister #eljames #wtfwhyamidoingthistomyself

My first reaction: she wrote something OTHER than 50 Shades spin-off? 😳It‘s classic jet-set contemporary setup set in England. Rich Lord, poor girl...one or both of them needs saving. No character development built up just a change from one chapter to the next, bit whiny, bit Stockholm Syndromy...less vivid sex scenes than previous books it felt like. Almost like a Dom/Sub but not quite - almost as if she‘s trying to get away from that.

Another book that I‘ve seen all over Litsy in the past few months. I had the chance to scoop up the audiobook with the new “skip the line” feature on Libby. Although I wasn‘t sure what to expect, seeing that it was written by the author who wrote 50 shade, I wasn‘t let down. I really enjoyed it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Writing is bad. The story was good if it had been written better i would've enjoyed it more. It was VERY hard to make it though but i wanted to finish it. Its definitely atleast 150 or more pages to long. I dont know who the hell the editor is but come on you've got to be kidding me. This was worse than fsog. I thought it would be better glad i didnt buy it .

50-2019 ⭐️⭐️
No this is not 50 Shades and no her writing has not improved. In short the Lord of the Manor who sticks his c##k in anything falls in love with his illegal immigrant virgin Albanian cleaner. I have read similar tropes written by other authors that did it much better. I gave it two stars as it wasn't complete rubbish and helped me switch my brain off when I couldn't sleep as you don't have to think when you read this.

So what did you all think of this? Did anyone actually read this? This was loaned to me by the same coworker that loaned me The Chemist. I'll hardly every pass up a book. On one hand this was entertaining, but on the other hand the writing sucked. It made me cringe in parts due to the dialogue. I still refuse to read Fifty Shades...

Ok, I‘m diving in. I don‘t bail on books often, but my journey with the 50 Shades trilogy ended about 1/3 into book 2 with no desire to complete. But a decade has past and I‘m hopeful that all those books sales gave Ms James the time and inclination for some advanced writing seminars. ...Eeegads, so far, I‘m rather enjoying this - although this time I‘m going with the audiobook.

julesG It's been a decade since 50 Shades already? 6y
marleed @julesG I just looked up the publishing date. Not quite a decade - 2011. What I remember was that HS kids the ages of mine were reading it. When I read Book 1, I had the realization that the view my kids had of their sexuality was vastly different than my mindset at their age. I was glad I read book 1 because it broadened my perspective. Odd to take parenting tips from there, I know!! (edited) 6y
BooknerdsLife Hahaa hope it‘s better than 50Shades 😆🤞🏼 6y
marleed @BooknerdsLife Well I haven‘t bailed and I‘m almost done (did have to speed up the audio) so there is that. It‘s a meh for me. I can‘t get past that the author has her female lead coming from a human trafficking situation. Its just unseemly knowing where she will take her characters and storylines. (edited) 6y
BooknerdsLife @marleed OH Dear!!! 😂😂🙈 Don‘t think I‘ll be as brave as you to get through this “tough” read 😆👏🏼👏🏼 6y

Read most of this from my spot on the deck. It was a very quick read but I enjoyed it. A lot of drama and a pretty predictable ending but it was a good book for cottage reading.

Pretty much what I expected - entertaining but not earth shattering. I'm not sure why so many people have their panties in a twist over it. Are there better romances out there? Obviously. But is it horrible? Definitely not. I actually thought it was WAY more romantic than Fifty Shades (not that that's a very high bar, lol). Just a bit too long and the end felt rushed.

(Also trying come to terms with tomorrow being my last day of vacation 😭)

I‘m hoping the author didn‘t mean to project the thought that shy, timid women are preferred to a woman who knows what she wants and isn‘t afraid to ask for it but that‘s the vibe I just got.

I know that this book has dismal reviews, but people also hated 50 Shades and I was entertained by that just fine (no, the writing wasn't great but I was entertained nonetheless). Anywho - The Mister is currently $2.99 on e-book formats in case anyone else (like me) is curious about it #ebookdeals
