In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr Day, I will use this opportunity to pointedly remind us that Dr. King was a radical whose legacy has been sanitized and whitewashed. Many who profess to love him today, calling him "an inspiration!" are likely to have been among the 75% of Americans who deemed him "dangerous" in 1968.

Was good in that I realized I haven‘t really read or listened to too much MLK. Outside of I Have A Dream, there is so so so much more. I don‘t love reading speeches, but thought this was an important book

1 The tagged is very high on my TBR and waiting in my Audible library, and of course the March trilogy is fantastic!
2 I'd say apathy and passivity allow structural, systemic evil to continue and prevent a just peace.
3 Women's March in SF or Oakland, worship, Alternatives to Policing: How Not to Call the Cops Ever training, and Reclaim MLK's Radical Legacy March/Rally in Oakland!
4 Nope! Bay Area 😊
Awesome listen. Grabbed the physical book from the library to study some of the speeches. #audiobook
Giving this 5 stars for content, 3 stars for performance, with an average of 4 stars overall. Martin Luther King, Jr. discussed topics that, sadly, are still vital to understand today. Perhaps that goes without saying, but let's say it. Hypocrisy, injustice, lack of acceptance, and the way we treat people living in poverty.
Wanda Sykes performance of this speech just didn't work for me—not enough gravitas. Still, it's a worthwhile listen.
This is free on Audible. It‘s a huge, powerful reminder that nothing really changes. The poor are still poor, the rich are still powerful.
Wow. This speech describes the hypocrisies of American injustice, the plight of the poor no matter your skin color, & is unfortunately still relevant today. I'm convinced 90% of people who quote #MLK to silence activists have no idea what he stood for. This should be mandatory reading in all American schools. Perhaps if there was better education, society would be a better place. #readingblackout #blackhistorymonth #nonfiction #audiobook #audible
I‘ve been reading this collection of MLK‘s essays and speeches for some time. I guess I just didn‘t want to “finish” reading something so remarkable and powerful. Like so many others, I feel a kinship with MLK and his vision for America and the world. His commitment to justice and fight against poverty is mine as well. 🕯#MLK
