ummmm I do not know how I feel about this book.
from the MC‘s insta-gay moment, to her immediately diving into S&M and a poly relationship that ended up being abusive was all very intense. and they didn‘t acknowledge or face real problems that the LGBTQIA+ community faces in society. parts were funny and entertaining, parts were cringey, idk I didn‘t hate it but something isn‘t totally sitting right either

This just made a Pick on the basis that the writer is genuinely funny & has created some hilarious characters/scenes. Also the 'perfect girlfriend turns gaslighting psycho' plot is nicely done (though it does juxtapose awkwardly with the sex-crazed levity in the first part of the book.) What I didn't buy was the 'Insta-Gay' factor - did the MC really have absolutely no inclination that she might be a lesbian until she slept with a woman?

Up next. Read some mixed reviews so approaching with caution.

This book was pretty disappointing. Davies portrays being a lesbian as some hip trend where you don‘t experience any of the discrimination that‘s actually present in a queer person‘s life. The writing was cringe at times and did not immerse me in the plot at all. Additionally, the unnecessary crudeness of Julia‘s sex life made me feel like this book was a cheap erotic novel. Didn‘t enjoy the read and would not recommend this to others

I just learned that there are some people asking why there‘s no straight pride month.?That reminds me of people who ask why there‘s no White history month.? People need to start educating themselves.

Anyway, back to why I originally wanted to post on Litsy: any of you Littens got any good LGBTQ+ *fiction* books to recommend???️‍? It‘s high time I diversify my library.

It started off a right good laugh, It feels like she's making being a lesbian or just being gay is a new trend or a new fashionable thing.
Then their was the endless chapters about her controlling first girlfriend Sam, good lord! The book would of been less by about 10 chapter if you take all that endless dribble out!

An incredible book! While it started lighter, with Bridget Jones-esque dry wit about (lesbian) dating life in London, the tone went darker as it explored Julia's first relationship with a woman. This girlfriend turns out to be controlling and emotionally abusive. It's painful to watch, which is a testament to Davies' writing. I also loved the friends, family, and job portions of the book. It had me laughing out loud throughout. Highly recommended!

Reading this book on my covered back porch since it is somehow raining and sunny at the same time. Also, this book is going somewhere dark, the woman Julia is dating is showing classic signs of an emotionally abusive partner. #QueerBooks

This is a good, fun, silly read. TBH I found the protagonist quite annoying in a trendy London middle class millennial way (there needs to be more call centre workers from Hull in literature and less failed dancers moping about slumming it in the civil service). It's an entertaining and funny read though, and surprisingly heart warming and moving in places.

As a long-standing Edinburgh resident in the throes of this year's Fringe I can say confirm that, yes Julia, everyone does hate you.

Wow that was an education I was not expecting. This was more of a coming of an age story, discovery your sexuality, who you want to be as person in the workplace and how to be a friend. Also to know when you are in trashy relationship, even when you love the person. I really enjoyed watching Julia grow.

This was the delightful lesbian romantic comedy that I really wanted Camille Perri‘s When Katie Met Cassidy to be. I don‘t “get” the idea of polyamory or open relationships cause I‘m a green eyed Scorpio monster and Sam is an emotionally abusive asshat, but I really really really loved this. 4🌟

I‘ve been feeling somewhat slumpy (more like just tired and distracted) so just picked the most recently purchased Kindle book and dove in. 20% in and I‘m loving it. #queerbooks #LGBTbooks

Well this was an education! It‘s lauded as a book that every woman should read, but I honestly don‘t think my mum would read it (she‘s not open to most sex scenes, never mind the graphically described lesbian sex in this book 🤷🏼‍♀️). It‘s a great ‘coming out‘ story though, and it‘s hilarious in places. I have to say that I really enjoyed it.

Maybe a little too frank for me at the beginning, l found the descriptions of bad straight sex and getting high in the toliets a bit depressing rather than funny (altho fellow pigeons thought they were hilarious). However, it did improve and I thought the fpn about coming out and entering into a polyamorous relationship with a controlling lesbian was really convincing. It got funnier, and the side plots were goid too.
