I finished the April card this week also! “Vase“ was the hold-out.

#ISpyBingo @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks

Sarahreadstoomuch I never thought to go back and finish old boards! Great idea as there are some that I hardly found anything on…. Thanks for that! 2mo
Lauredhel @Sarahreadstoomuch yep the original challenge brief says you can run all boards all year! 2mo

There‘s nothing like connecting with a new-to-you reader and/or writer and realizing that you would gladly listen to them talk about books indefinitely. That‘s how I felt about the guest on this week‘s episode of my podcast, author Chloe Liese! We talked about Karen Cushman‘s THE MIDWIFE‘S APPRENTICE… and wow wow wow we covered a lot of ground! Cozy up and listen to us discuss this classic of the ‘90s! 👶 Link to listen in my bio.

I‘ve had this on my tbr for awhile. Would normally be right up my alley but it was just so so. It was a quick audiobook listen to try to reach my annual goal. Not sure that will happen this year!

This is a newer classic I had yet to read, and so gladly took the opportunity this morning. There are a lot of parallels to lessons to teach kids today - bullying, self-worth, confidence building - so I can see why it remains a classic. Admittedly, parts are a little hard to read, with the treatment Alyce experiences. Despite her timidity, she shows an inner strength and determination. And a good, kind heart.

Librarybelle My pick for #NewClassic for #BBRC #MiddleGrade @LibrarianRyan @StayCurious Only a month to go to complete the challenge!! 4y
Chrissyreadit I read this years ago and loved it ❤️❤️🙌 4y

I loooooooove Newbery books! I have this goal of reading all the medal and honor books, so I thought some of you might like to join me! 😁 However, we‘ll just be reading the medal winners for this challenge, picked at random. This #NewberyEpicChallenge will take over four years to complete if we read two books a month. I‘ll post the books each month. No discussion, just lots of lovely books! Who‘s in???

Eggs I too had a goal of reading all newbury winners, since its inception ( in chronological order!!). Then work interfered. I‘ve read a lot of them though 5y
amber_ldsmom @Eggs ❤️ Aren‘t they great? My favorites have been Maniac Magee and When You Reach Me. 5y
Eggs For me: When you reach me, it‘s like this, cat 5y

I birthed three babies with a certified nurse-midwife, 1 in hospital, 2 at home: a wonderfully unforgettable experience 👶🏼👶🏼👶🏼. However, I would not want to have done this in medieval times....
This was a great story!!

DivineDiana Cheers to you! I did love 6y

I guess this would be a middle- grade book. The reader‘s performance was wonderful. It‘s a pick for me as an adult, but I would have loved it as a kid. I‘ve always been partial to historical fiction. 3/5⭐️s

BookNAround Her book Catherine, Called Birdie is great too. 6y
Wife @BookNAround I‘m currently listening to it!😍 6y

Brat has never known a home or family. Emerging from the warmth of a dungheap, she barters work for food and becomes the midwife's apprentice, known now as Beetle. The midwife uses Beetle for labor without sharing her secrets. Despite all her woes, Beetle grows in strength and skill, even finding a real name. Will she make a place for herself in the world?

More below

ravenlee I found this book interesting but not compelling. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as a kid. The writing is sparse and to the point, and Beetle's life is dreary and realistic, but hopeless for so long it bothered me. I don't know, I guess I just didn't feel this book. 6y

Starting off my personal library Litsy project (#mcpl) with my Newbery collection. I pick up Newbery winners in hardcover as I find them in used bookstores and library sales. I haven't read them all, but this is one I read as a kid and absolutely loved!

Tamra What a great project idea! That inspires me. 🙂 7y
everlocalwest @Tamra I'll take any excuse to spend more time on Litsy. 😍 7y
