Pickpick

⭐⭐⭐⭐
I liked the idea behind this one. A world of rock people who live underground whose planet is crumbling around them. Characterizations of the Doctor and her companions was well done, and the story was lots of fun.

✔Shortest Book I Own

Henry wanted in on my #24in48 shelfie. It's almost 2pm here in Virginia, and after a brief nap (I have the flu and am struggling to stay awake), my reading clock is right at 6 hours and 15 minutes. I am determined to do the full 24 hours, but I think it will take massive amounts of coffee to keep me going. #sacrifices 😉
@24in48

Mehso-so

3.5⭐ I enjoyed the story and characters, but too many missed mistakes in editing and bad wording choices. Sometimes it was clunky. An example of extra words 'Down in the City, the people of looked up at the roof of the world.' Makes my brain itch. 😫

squirrelbrain Uurgh, you‘re upsetting me too! 6y
rabbitprincess I was surprised that they released a 13 novel so quickly! Seems like it came out before her first season finished. 6y
laurieluna @rabbitprincess they released 3! The first one, tagged, was great, gave it 5 ⭐. This one had a bad deal in the editing stage I think. The last I'd called Combat Magicks. 6y
laurieluna @squirrelbrain every time I came across one it was throwing me off. Extremely irritating. 6y

I'm enjoying the story but the grammar and spelling mistakes are getting to me. I mean what even is this? I assume it's meant to be 'see'. How did this get through editing??
Turns out it's a slang term, thanks @Itchyfeetreader. Never read it in any book before. Still finding extra words in sentences though.
Litsy helps me learn new things 😊

Itchyfeetreader I think I might be recce - it‘s a common British army term that‘s flipped into slang here . It‘s short for reconnaissance - ie to go and scope something out 6y
tournevis @Itchyfeetreader That's what I was tought too. 6y
laurieluna @Itchyfeetreader thanks! I've never seen it used before so I was totally confused! Does fit with the sentence though, so you're probably right. Feel silly now 😂 6y

Itchyfeetreader @laurenbescoby don‘t be! I had never heard it used until I married a soldier. He uses it all the time (frankly to the point of being pretty annoying !) 6y
laurieluna @Itchyfeetreader my brother was in the army and never heard him use it once in his 8 years of service! Might also be a regional thing? 6y
TrishB We use that as slang here. 6y
laurieluna @TrishB the Doctors new companions are from Sheffield so the author must be picking up slang used by them. 😊 6y
ravenlee It might also depend on what kind of role in the army a soldier served, as some jobs might rely heavily on reconnaissance and others could have no interaction at all. I think in the US we hear “recon” more than “recce” if we hear it at all. 6y
eraderneely I definitely hear recce in Leeds! 6y
eraderneely Although I think if I was asked to spell it I would have said reckie or rekkie 6y
BeansPage I can't do grammatical and spelling errors in books. It is like nails on a chalkboard for me. I have a policy that I will not recommend a book unless the errors are properly edited. 6y
laurieluna @eraderneely yes! See this just looked like a jumble of letters to me 🙈 I'm assuming this book will be sold all over, so I probably won't be the only one to go 'eh?' 😂 6y
BookwormM My hubby uses recce all the time 6y
mrsmarch This is a word! It‘s short for reconnoiter but I‘ve never heard it used spontaneously in conversation. 6y

The books I'm starting 2019 with. Enjoying all 3 so far. Hoping to finish Molten Heart today, these new Doctor Who novelisations are proving to be fun, quick reads!

RadicalReader @laurenbescoby be sure to check out two awesome books coming out this year!! An Anonymous Girl and No Exit both sound terrific and an awesome book I loved immensely because of its gripping plot and catapult chapters is The One by John Marrs INCREDIBLE NOVEL A MUST READ 6y
