I have no idea how I missed the two women on this cover 🧡💗

Is this on anyone‘s tbr list?!

TheBookgeekFrau I read it. Didn't care for it much. It was trying to be a modern day The Women's Room and fell way short. However, if you've never read The Women's Room it's probably a good read 2y
KathyWheeler I‘ve read The Women‘s Room and still liked Mrs. Everything very much. However, when I was reading it, I wasn‘t really sure about how I felt. I still occasionally think about the women in this book — a year or so after I finished it. 2y

Usually I can‘t put down one of Weiner‘s books. This one had period that drug on and didn‘t feel like that. She covers important material I can appreciate her desire to tackle the female perspective over the years, but I didn‘t completely love this book.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 This book brings up a LOT. I found it hard to set aside. Maybe because I have sisters and know how complicated those relationships are.
All I know is, I was trying to finish this book while enjoying a snack and I got so emotional, I couldn't swallow and gave up on eating. 😅 Had to grab a tissue. My heart was in my throat. This would be a great for a book club discussion!

KathyWheeler I liked this when I read it, but I find myself still thinking about it months later, so I like it now even more than I originally did. 3y

Not my favorite Jennifer Weiner book, but I still liked it. I liked Jo and Bethie whose lives we follow from the 1950s - 2022. My only complaint is the book dealt with too many issues: race, sexuality, drug abuse, rape, and sexual harassment. My big takeaway was a lesson I wish I‘d learned earlier. A character about what she wished she‘d taught her daughters: The world is hard enough, would beat them up enough, without them adding to the pain.

“We lose ourselves, but we find our way back” … it‘s about forgiving yourself and doing better now. We all mess up and wish we could erase parts of our lives, but we can‘t so it‘s about learning to move on and be better. “You try, fail, and try again”

This was a delightful intersection of two of my favourite tropes - rich people problems & family sagas. Great summer reading for when you want something to sink into with some depth but still a page turner.

I am a Jennifer Weiner fan and this book did not disappoint me. I love books that take the characters through many years of their lives and that‘s exactly what this book does. It starts when they are young girls and takes them through to their later years. They grow and change and experience many highs and lows throughout their lives. It also covers many historical and sociological events along the way and how they are affected by them.

For some reason I went into this with the impression that it was going to be light, and while the writing style wasn‘t at all taxing, it was still anything but. It‘s the story of two sisters, told from both of their perspectives, spanning more than 50 years. I loved that the narrative style was unflinching, and I found the characters really relatable.

IndoorDame I listened to the audio version and was impressed with the narrator‘s ability to believably change the voice of the characters as they grew up. 4y

Great book! This story follows two girls growing up in Detroit. It starts when they are children and continues through their entire lives. It covers SO many different topics, in a real life, relatable way. Loved it!

I was a little behind on my Goodreads reading challenge, but a socially distanced 10 day sailing trip caught me up! Thankfully I enjoyed all the books I read on the trip. Mrs Everything was my first Jennifer Weiner, and it makes we want to read more, but I understand this is her only historical fiction. We‘ve come a long way, but we still have so much further to go.

I used to love Jennifer Weiner books & still have a couple, but then I stopped reading her new ones for a long time. I enjoyed this story, the dual perspectives of the sisters, their struggles, & changes in society during their life. Weiner‘s characters are always relatable. The characters are women trying to be everything, live up to family & societal expectations, and fight for the lives they want. This is my #doublespin book @TheAromaofBooks

This is by far Jennifer Weiner‘s best book, a somewhat melancholy tale of two sisters trying their hardest to break free of the constraints placed on them by their sex, by their religion, by their time and by living in a patriarchal society. I grew to love both sisters, wanting to hug them at one moment and shake them at the next. And the ending—which highlights how far women have come and how far we still have to go—was absolutely lovely.

I am HEARTHBROKEN. This is the best book I have read in so long. I read the reviews that said that there was too much covered in this book or that it was too long, but those are not my opinions at all. These were real lives of two sisters. Some fucked up lives, some real struggles, but authentic, real lives. I'm crying. I needed this book to be longer. I want more.

Wow. Friendly neighborhood demisexual here. I remember the first time I was attracted to my best friend (a girl). I remember feeling "unnatural". Shaming your daughter for it is not the way to handle this. I'm glad I found out my sexuality in the 2010s and not in the 1950s....

Since she‘s got such a hot book coming out now, I figured it was time to read her last year‘s effort. This spans several decades in the lives of 2 sisters and covers an astounding amount of ground including child molestation, drug use, rape, #metoo themes, coming out, etc. It was a very interesting read. I think it could have used a bit more editing, but I really liked the 2 sisters and how they played the cards they were dealt.

TerriGreen I loved some of her early books, like Good in Bed, but I haven‘t read any of her recent works. This one is on the TBR. 5y
KristiAhlers I admit I vacillated between liking this book and being over it. I ended up liking it in the end. I read it for Barnes and Nobles book club when it first released. It was an interesting discussion that night. Which incidentally was what led me to liking the book more than I did when I went to discuss it. 5y

Parts of this book chronicling the lives of 2 sisters are great and speed right along in the way I expect from Jennifer Weiner. Other sections, including the first 50 pages, are clunky and overworked. Not her best, but I definitely enjoyed pieces of it.
