Turner Classic Movies: Christmas in the Movies
Turner Classic Movies: Christmas in the Movies: 30 Classics to Celebrate the Season | Jeremy Arnold
17 posts | 4 read
Turner Classic Movies presents a bucket list of the best and most beloved holiday films of all time, complete with spirited commentary, behind-the-scenes stories, and photos spanning eight decades of Christmastime favorites. Nothing brings the spirit of the season into our hearts quite like a great holiday movie. "Christmas films" come in many shapes and sizes and exist across many genres. Some, like It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story, are perennials, while others, such as Die Hard, have only gradually become yuletide favorites. But they all have one thing in common: they use themes evoked by the holiday period - nostalgia, joy, togetherness, dysfunction, commercialism, or cynicism - as a force in their storytelling. !--EndFragment--Turner Classic Movies: Christmas in the Movies showcases the very best among this uniquely spirited strain of cinema. Each film is profiled on what makes it a "Christmas movie," along with behind-the-scenes stories of its production, reception, and legacy. Complemented by a trove of color and black-and-white photos, Turner Classic Movies: Christmas in the Movies is a glorious salute to a collection of the most treasured films of all time. Among the 30 films included: The Shop Around the Corner, Holiday Inn, Meet Me in St. Louis, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, A Christmas Story, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, Little Women, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Elf
White Christmas
Home Alone

dabbe Agree 💯! I guess if the time period was in December, they counted it! Thanks for playing and sharing. ❄️💙❄️ 3w

Urgh, laid up with the cold lurgy 😪❄️🥶🤧 I'm in need of some serious screen time today.
What would you recommend? Any family favourites or movie traditions?
I love It's a wonderful life, my Gran's favourite. We watch Elf every year as our family film. Might start with that & snuggle under the blankets with a hot toddy. Whiskey is acceptable for breakfast when you're ill, right? 🤔🙂

bnp Sorry you're ill. 😝 Hope some movies and hot drinks help You free better soon.❤️ 2y
jlhammar I also love It's A Wonderful Life. If you want more Jimmy Stewart, The Shop Around the Corner is one we enjoy each December. Little Women (1994), Christmas in Connecticut, The Bishop's Wife, White Christmas and Meet Me in St. Louis are some others we watch each year. Robin Robin (Netflix, stop-motion animated musical) is a a short one--so adorable and heartwarming. Take care and feel better soon! 2y
mom_of_4 My daughter watches Polar Express ever year. 2y

I totally forgot I had a little bit of S'mores tea leftover. Perfect accompaniment for a Christmas movie featuring librarians. I should have watched this movie a long time ago. #wintergames2020 #ReadNosedReindeer

Early morning movie time--just me and my tree. I read about this movie in the tagged book. I'm so glad TCM aired it. #wintergames2020 #ReadNosedReindeer

Loved this little Christmas book which features most of my favorite holiday movies, a lot of which were made in the 1940s like The Shop Around the Corner and Christmas in Connecticut. The author talks about actors, directors, and how the films were received by the audience when they were released. Some newer films like Elf and Love Actually are featured as well. Well researched with each film getting about 3-4 pages of text and photos. Fun book!🎄

charl08 Ooh, ❤the shop around the corner. Time to find a digital copy, I think. 5y
Palimpsest @char108 You should! I watched it last weekend. There is just so much to love about it! ☺️ 5y

I loved reading this book. It's a great overview of some well-known and some not so well-known Christmas movies. One one issue is that The Santa Clause us not included. But I'm very happy to add this to not only my books on movies, but to my books in Christmas as well.

Always happy to add to my collection of books about movies, but especially glad when it's a #TCM book. Christmas in the Movies came in after being backordered for 2 months!!! I can't wait to read it 😊. #bookmail #filmlover
