The 13-Story Treehouse
The 13-Story Treehouse | Andy Griffiths
23 posts | 24 read | 6 to read
Andy and Terry live in a treehouse. But it's not just any old treehouse, it's the most amazing treehouse in the world! This treehouse has thirteen stories, a bowling alley, a see-through swimming pool, a secret underground laboratory, and a marshmallow machine that follows you around and automatically shoots marshmallows into your mouth whenever you are hungry. Life would be perfect for Andy and Terry if it wasn't for the fact that they have to write their next book, which is almost impossible because there are just so many distractions, including thirteen flying cats, giant bananas, mermaids, a sea monsters pretending to be mermaids, enormous gorillas, and dangerous burp gas-bubblegum bubbles! Join the fun with The 13-Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton. This title has Common Core connections.

And when I say “treehouse,“ I don't mean any old treehouse - I mean a 13-story treehouse!

I enjoyed the beginning of the book when the boys are walking the reader through the different things in the treehouse.

Such a fun and imaginative book! The main characters Andy and Terry are goofy and live in a wild and wonderful treehouse that is 13-stories! They need to write a book, but are running into distractions. I loved the way the book was written and was entertained the whole time.

I read this book for my kids and must admit that I got a bit carried away myself. A true treat for the kids! Imaginative, impeccably creative, hilarious and a bit crazy in the end.

This series has had a few cover changes. For the first 3-5 books there seemed to be different covers for the HC and the PB. By book 5 a simple cover was vogue and the the series still has new books coming out.

Checked this out for my 9yo. Silly, imaginative fun; I mean, there‘s a tank full of man-eating sharks in the treehouse. The writer and illustrator put themselves in the story and it‘s fun reading their banter

Kids seem to like this series. It is goofy. Lots of pages with few words. Funny illustrations. If they like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Consider this series too.

My 7-y/o loves this series, but got very upset with this book. Dr. Stupido un-invents everything he doesn't like, and ends up uninventing the whole universe before he is tricked into uninventing himself. It's meant to be funny, but my son stopped being amused when flying cats were uninvented and almost shed tears of rage when Stupido started uninventing people. 😐

MrsMalaprop Oh dear. I hope he recovered? My 9yo waits with baited breath for each new edition. 🤗 7y
Leniverse @MrsMalaprop He wanted to close the book without a bookmark and never open it again. So I sat with him until he got to the point where they decide to draw the world back into existence. At that point he was able to put the book nicely down and go to sleep. I hope he wants to keep reading because book 4 and 5 just arrived in the mail. 😂 7y
saresmoore These books! My 9yo reads them aloud to her sister and they make me cringe. My kids love them, though! It ALMOST makes me want to write a series of children‘s books that isn‘t quite so terrible. Almost. 7y
Leniverse @saresmoore 😆😂 I haven't looked too closely at them. Maybe I should just keep it that way. 😂 7y
saresmoore @Leniverse I think that is an excellent conclusion. 😆 There are some favorite series (I‘m looking at you, Dog Man) that I don‘t even let them read aloud in my vicinity. Ignorance is bliss when it comes to poorly written kids‘ fluff books! 7y

#AxtonBookNerd loves this series! He devoured the first one, got the second (not shown) and third from the school library, and today we picked up the fourth and fifth from the regular library. His review: “If you like Captain Underpants, you‘ll love this series. I really like the characters because they are funny and they come up with cool things to add to their treehouse.” 😆 Thanks @MrsMalaprop & Clem for sending the first book!

alisiakae My daughter loves that series too! She read the first with #JuniorReaders, and she has the 2nd and 3rd checked out from the library right now. 😃 7y
MrsMalaprop Yay 👏. We‘re so glad he liked them. Clem is still working his way through the Amulet series from his school library 📚👍. 7y

Jerdencon Yay... glad it got there! Hope she likes it. We had actually planned another book but it was taking too long to read and we went with this one which is a fav of my sons. He loves the whole series! 😀 7y
alisiakae @Jerdencon She does like it! Thanks so much! She will probably read it a few times before we pass it on; she finished it already! 7y

Not read them yet but this author is normally good for some #quickreads. I'm missing book 3 and 4. #anditsaugust

Leniverse I just bought a set of the first three in the hopes that they will be right for my almost-7 y/o. 7y
LibrarianRyan @Leniverse they should be. I've skimmed them. I only bought the set because I was gifted #5. This author puts out wonderful stuff for 7 years old. 7y
Leniverse Good. I've been hard pressed to find the right books for him. He's recently read one of Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree books to me. That was just right (slightly challenging) for his reading level, and he's agreed that it was alright and he might read another. The readers he get at school are done in 5 min. They don't even give him chapter books. I've feeding him Pokemon comics to keep him reading. 7y

emtobiasz It took my coworkers and me way too long to figure out these books increase in multiples of 13 each time! 😂 7y
saresmoore @Leniverse I think these will be great for him! My 8yo has loved reading them and breezed right through the series. 7y
Leniverse @saresmoore Good to hear! I'll report back. 🙂 7y
LibrarianRyan @Leniverse might also try some Gordon Kormann. Swindle is a great series. Might be a little challenging. 7y
Leniverse Thanks. The Swindle series looks fun but a bit too advanced. Making note for the future! 7y

My darling 11 year old decided he needed to organise his books before he went to school this morning. I'm both impressed - who doesn't love a good book-organising session? - but also a little amazed at the number of books he owns. Wonder where he gets that from? 😂😂😂 This is only a selection as well - this doesn't include his picture books or his non-fiction books!

Thank you Andy Griffiths. For the very first time my 6yo is reading fiction for fun and not for homework. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Note the cast on the left arm. It has been one of those months with multiple doctors visits. The bone hasn't healed straight but hoping he doesn't have to have an operation. 🙏

saresmoore Yay for reading and prayers for healing! 8y
Centique Thanks @saresmoore we really appreciate it 😊 8y
Cinfhen I second what @saresmoore said 💙 8y
Centique Thanks @cinfhen Litsy is such a good place for finding kind people like both of you. 8y

4⭐️ this is another book/ series that many patrons have recommended to me, and as well as the Amulet series, is rarely seen on the shelves. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and it finally got back on its shelf. It's a very quick read ( took me all about 3O ish minutes?), and a very funny, and imaginative story. Definitely going to finish this series !

I mostly read this to see what the fuss was about - since this book is rarely sighted ON library shelves. Can definitely see why it's popular with a younger crowd - Terry and Andy get mixed up in some crazy shenanigans whilst trying to finish writing/illustrating their latest book. Cats get turned into canaries, bananas turn giant and you find out exactly what rooms make up a 13-story tree house... good mix of illustrations and words.

Sue I haven't read it myself, but got it last year for my non-reading nephew - who devoured it whole! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Sue - I probably won't read the rest of the series (as I was mostly curious since it seems rather popular - and the page I randomly opened it to was the one about knives 😂) but can definitely see how it would appeal to reluctant readers... 8y

Is this the most Aussie joke of all time? 🐊

I'd love to hear what phrases people associate with Australia that they've picked up from books or movies...

maximoffs @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I remember seeing something about a jelly fish that kills you in 7 min and the average ambulance arrival time is 8min 8y
Marchpane Tell him he's dreamin! 😂 8y
AmberJoy I seem to associate small deadly animals and insects with Australia. 8y
Lizpixie @steverogers it's called irukandji jellyfish and are the size of a square of chocolate, and there's also the box jellyfish which killed 60 people in the last 100 years. 8y

maximoffs @Lizpixie let me tell you how much I don't need that in my life 8y
Sue That's awesome. @LaurenReads There have actually been cases in the last 5 years of dingoes on Fraser Island attempting to take bigger kids - there was a 3 yr old mauled. 8y
Sue @Marchpane How's the serenity??!! 8y
Lauren_reading @Sue that is so scary! We have a coyote problem in Las Vegas - but only with pets being attacked, not children!! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Lizpixie @steverogers - I didn't know that about the jellyfish 😐 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @AmberJoy, haha - we do seem to have a reputation for deadly animals... 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LeeRHarry, haha - I've not seen any Kath & Kim.... 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Lizpixie - some classics there 😂😂😂 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LaurenReads @Sue - oh! I didn't know that! I've only ever seen dingoes at sanctuaries... 8y
Sue Yeah, the problem with the dingo population on Fraser is that the food supply is pretty limited, so wandering unattended small humans look pretty tasty. People are pretty careful now, but it did finally give some independent evidence to the chamberlain case after all these years 8y
