Mehso-so

I did enjoy this historical fiction about the race to create porcelain, capturing the perfect blue hues. The characterisations were good, plot tense in places. Unfortunately, it kind of ended abruptly for me. The denouement kind of wiped out all that had happened previously as unnecessary. A bit bizarre.

Huguenots, porcelain, and the Seven Years War—I was very excited to read this as a historical fiction lover, and it‘s not a bad book by any means. Well researched and full of detail and description of the period and porcelain-making process, but I found the plot a little predictable and some of the characters underdeveloped/incongruous with the period. I was most compelled by the antagonist, and wish we had gotten more of him. 3/5 for me!

Sace @Kate.Braithwaite cool! Eventually I'll get around to reading it. Too many books, not enough focus, time....slumps are the worst. 6y

My last read of 2018 was THE BLUE, which set a serious high water mark for my 2019 reads! A winning heroine, international espionage, nerdy art passions, and Madame de Pompadour! Yummy!

Another winner from #Pigeonhole

Behind this beautiful cover is a thriller about the creation of blue porcelain. The heroine is forced to spy, double cross and manipulate to find the recipe. With France and England at war, and as a Hugenot refugee who is being blackmailed, she finds herself falling in love with the scientist who is working on the formula. Great heroine and a gripping story.

This is such a fabulous read and so evocatively and beautifully written! There are some colourful characters, excuse the pun, by name and by nature. It‘s a really interesting story and I was fascinated by the history of the colour ‘blue‘. A great amount of research has gone into this gripping tale of espionage. Brilliant and vibrant.

At once, a superb blend of historical fact and fiction, we follow exceptionally well developed characters in a novel where the writing and imagery is as delicate and elegant as the porcelain whose history we are examining.
A must read for any fan of historical fiction. 5🌟

This fabulous historical novel features industrial espionage and the 18th century passion for porcelain. It's the only thing keeping me sane during this move!

This has the history of porcelain, which may sound a little dry, but believe me, Nancy Bilyeau‘s writing has brought it to life. The sheer obsession between countries to develop the best is beyond belief.

A stunning novel, with a strong female character in Genevieve, intrigue, fear, violence, persecution, passion, obsession and love. A must read, Oh and the cover is beautiful too.

Thank you to The Pigeonhole for the opportunity to read this.

“The bearded man had unsettled me, though I can‘t say why. Men have looked at me before on the street or in the market, it‘s a price we women pay for shopping for goods”. Just started reading this on Pigeonhole....it‘s so good. Historical fiction at its finest.
