Wonderfully written and gripping

Great suspense; 1st person; college campus; dark

I almost rated this as a pick, because I had fun reading it and had trouble putting it down. However, I think there was too much that was unbelievable and/or left unexplained. I would definitely be willing to give her other books a chance though.

This was between a Pick and a So-So for me. The premise of an unresolved shooting on a college campus was unsettling but definitely kept my interest. I think it was the writing style that stalled it for me. The dialogue was halting at times, with many sentences of inner monologue and observations between each line in the conversation. Overall, though, this was a solid thriller with some unforeseen twists.

Excited to read this academic thriller

Day 2's book completed late last night! A college teacher, Dr Emmet, is shot by a student who then kills himself. 10 months later, Dr Emmet returns with a burning question: why her?! The Black Hour was really good!! A little slow in spots but worth it. I never guessed who it was... "It's always darkest before it's light. That's why we call it the black hour."

Two perspectives in this mystery/thriller with each side "Miss Marple"ing without the other quite realizing it. Academic setting but don't need to be in academia to enjoy. Recommended!

About halfway through so far and using a card my niece made me as a bookmark. The bookmark is way too cheery for this suspense...
