I pulled this off my shelf at random to read. Why? To make room for my Christmas book gifts. 😆😆 I‘m enjoying it, though.

New Year‘s book cull … incoming. 😆

Ruthiella A cull! 😱😆 11mo
LeahBergen @Ruthiella It‘s needed! 😆 11mo
TrishB Think I need one of those too! 11mo

LeahBergen @TrishB @TheLudicReader I try to do a couple every year but the books seem to reproduce when I‘m not looking. 😆 11mo
LeahBergen @Tamra Isn‘t it though? 😆 11mo

My first book finished for #24in48 and it was such a perfect book for me.

Fletcher‘s writing is so descriptive and beautiful, and I am a sucker for a good, gothic-feeling tale. Haunting, mysterious, and moving historical fiction, set in 1914 in London and the English countryside. I loved the characters, especially Clara, and Shadowbrook with all of its secrets and loveliness.

My second Susan Fletcher, and she‘s a new favorite author.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

VeganCleopatra I was checking reviews of this and immediately saw you had read it! I still haven't gotten to it but it is on my bookspin list so I'm kinda rooting for it. (Not that I can't just read it anyway but 🤷‍♀️) I've been tempted to read The Highland Witch again though since it is still on my mp3 player. I figured I should at least read a different one of hers before I reread that one. 😏 4y
sprainedbrain @VeganCleopatra Of course I read this author because of your awesome list, and then I went looking for more of her books. As good as this one was, I still think about Corrag a lot and will be reading The Highland Witch again one of these days. 😃 I also have The Silver Dark Sea around here somewhere that I need to get to. 4y
VeganCleopatra Oh I have that one too...unread of course. Sometimes I think I'm equally eager and apprehensive to read another book by an author when I loved the first one I read of theirs. 4y

Look at all of the #bookmail I received today! 😃

The bottom three are from my last Thriftbooks order of 2018, and are books I needed for challenges this year.

The top 3 are for traveling books clubs... my latest packages for #LGPOG and #LMPBC group F both arrived. I‘m excited about your books, Cal and Tammy!❤️

The pretty one on the left is from the UK, as I must read more of Fletcher‘s books, thanks to Nikki‘s pick for #NewYearWhoDis. 😃

BooksTeasAndBookishThings Yay!!! ❤️ 6y
Butterfinger Yes. Hope you enjoy it. 6y
SW-T I enjoyed Bloodfever and Darkfever. Looks like a good stack of future reads 😊 6y

It has all the right ingredients... a garden, an old house, a ghostly presence. A good but not awesome Gothic read. I think some scenes were a bit dragged out which slowed down the story and the plot was Gothic 101, but it was still engaging and enjoyable and I had no trouble staying with it to the end.
