The Quartet Murders | J. R. Ellis
9 posts | 4 read | 6 to read
A priceless violin. And a dark secret someone is prepared to kill for. DCI Oldroyd has seen his fair share of victims, but he has never witnessed a murder--until now. When world-famous violinist Hans Muller is shot and killed during a concert, the detective is faced with a case beyond logic. The culprit is nowhere to be found--and the victim's priceless violin has disappeared too. As Oldroyd investigates the mystery of the murderer's identity and the motive for the killing, he enters the ruthless world of wealthy instrument collectors and stumbles upon a dark path where shocking secrets have been buried in the past. But the secrets will soon take centre stage. Oldroyd must use all his cunning to recover the priceless instrument. But can he also solve the mystery of a murderer who vanished in front of his own eyes? Revised edition: This edition of The Quartet Murders includes editorial revisions.

Coffee break. It‘s feeling like fall. That in between place where summer is still evident in the sunshine and some flowers, but their fallen leaves on the porch floor.

Bailing on Poppy-just doesn‘t grab me- only a few pages in with Quartet & it has me totally absorbed. #serieslove2023

TheSpineView Sometimes bailing is the right thing to do! 1y
kspenmoll @TheSpineView I have absolutely no problem with Bailey to me. It‘s a waste of time to read a book you‘re not that interested in. 1y
TheSpineView @kspenmoll Totally agree! 1y

Pickpick

This is the second in the series. Detective Chief Inspector Oldroyd is at a chamber concert when one of the violinist gets murdered. Since he is present he helps with the investigation plus getting help from Detective Sergeant Andy Carter, When the murder is taking place someone also steals the violin which is a Stradivarius.
I really enjoyed the mystery. You don't have to read the first book to enjoy and understand this one.

Mehso-so

Fair, but some slow patches. A member of the Schubert Quartet is killed while on stage. His priceless Stradivarius violin disappears in the resulting melee. Then another member is killed after it's discovered that he had taken the violin. The violin goes missing again. DCIs Oldroyd and Armitage muddle their way through. Might or might not read the other two books in this series.
