The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love
The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love | Jill Conner Browne
The best-selling Sweet Potato Queens bring their unique brand of "spunky advice on beauty, life and love" (People magazine) to our Miniature Edition line in this abridgment of The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love, complete with outrageous humor and insight, plus sparkly charm on a ribbon marker. "Unlike other beauty queens, the Jackson, Miss., Sweet Potato Queens are self-crowned, rule for life ... and are real women--figure flaws and all. This buoyantly funny guide to life and love is a hoot from the get-go as ringleader Browne offers queenly observations on life's most pressing issues. --Publisher's Weekly

This was a re-read from 15+ years ago and on beginning it I couldn't remember what my opinion of it had been. Well, my opinion of it now is pretty low. I'm not even sure where to start with my objections to it but I will say this. If you're gonna write a book this problematic at least make it funny. This ain't funny. Very, very not funny.

vkois88 I've attempted that book several times and can never get through it 6y

Day 23: Pink—So much pink! I'm not generally a fan of the color. I *am* a fan of the four books I've read in the stack, thus far. #RiotGrams #Pink

Congrats on the milestone and the opportunity to celebrate with you!

I read The Sweet Potato Queens‘ Book of Love a couple years ago and laughed all the way through. It is a fast, funny read that will put a spring in your step. Bonus points: it would also work well as a beach read!

Booksnchill @StephanieGeiser Thanks for reminding me of this book- I also read it when it came out and it makes me smile just thinking about it! I thing I have the sequel unread on my tbr! 💖🥃🐾 7y
StephanieGeiser @Booksnchill You‘re welcome! It‘s such a fun read that I had to recommend it. I also want to read the other Sweet Potato Queens‘ books! I hear they have a cookbook as well. 💕 7y

Saw this on #carinapress Facebook and could not resist the repost! I literally got in trouble in school for reading all the time lol!

stephhammer Many times when we watched movies in class, I was the kid who had a book hidden on my lap & would read instead of watching the movie. Thank you to all the teachers who surely noticed but let me get away with it! 8y
Suet624 @stephhammer 💕💕💕😂 8y
Gayan I have always taken a book with me everywhere I go, even when I was a kid. I can't tell you how many times I had books taken away in school, mostly in Math class. 😂 8y

CoverToCoverGirl Me too! Lol 8y
Jaimelire Yes! That was me. 8y
mrsmarch @Gayan When I was in 8th grade our school-wide dedicated reading time fell right at the start of my honors algebra class. It had the bonus effect of making me eager to get to math so I could sit down and get my book out. 😂 8y
rubyslippersreads I got in trouble for reading during recess and for concealing a book inside my math book. 😄 8y
Pinkmeghan @Gayan 💖 agreed! 8y
Pinkmeghan @mrsmarch I would pay MONEY now to see someone try to take a book from you! 💖 8y
MyNamesParadise I remember one time in elementary school we had spare time and the substitute teacher mentioned something we could do when we were done, but she didn't say we could read. I went up to her and asked and she was like "of course you can!" My mom was a lunch monitor there at the time and the sub told my mom and she was like "your daughter is so sweet. Can you believe she asked if she could read" ?☺️ 8y

By "getting off her ass" (her words) and writing a funny book, that tall woman on the top left is responsible for fully 75% of my best friendships over the past two decades. Thanks, Boss Queen. @Gayan @Bee @Quiet @SissyP @KimmyDarling @SisterMaryDandelion #shortstories #somethingforseptember

Gayan I posted about this once with a picture of my signed book. I actually have the first four signed. This is the truth. 8y
Hornsby78 @Gayan I have a few signed but I lost track along the way and forgot to bring them with me to the parade. I have 3 or 4 signed. Randy (KiltBoy) was signing his book that he gave us last year when I realized I had not brought any of the newer books for Jill to sign in YEARS. 8y
Bee This book and author opened a whole new world of friends to me. I lost my signed copies in the big move. 8y

A #uniquefact about me is that I read this book in the Summer of 2001, joined the message board for the book and made a group of friends that are as close as my family. I have actually been to The Million Queen March more than once. I have also traveled all over the United States to meet people that I met on a message board and could not be more happy about it. These friends have seen me through the worst times of my life. ❤️ #augustofbooks

Chessa That is so cool! I must read this. 8y
