A book about one boy's adventures in the snow. A cute and easy read, but doesn't touch on anything super substantial. Just fun!

I think that this book would be very beneficial if you have
ELA learners. The book would allow for them to read the book in Spanish, but see the translation in English. It would be very beneficial to use this book with young children.

In the Caldecott award winning book, The Snowy Day, it shows a very unique illustration style. This can push the sense of realism with children and make them look at life in a more beautiful and exciting way. The story is about a little boy who woke up to a snowy land and seeing all the activities there are to do during weather like this.

I think this would be a good book to read in the winter time. It is a good story about a boy and his love for the snow. Later that night he dreams that the snow is melted away. To his surprise when he wakes up the next morning, the snow is still there!

Review- The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, 1962, Caldecott Award Winning Book. In this snowy world, a little boy named Peter is finding little joy in playing in the snow. This book was illustrated through small pieces of collage art, this style was used to help the book feel more child-friendly as the little boy explores the snow.
Blurb- Winter season here this book is perfect to get your students excited about snow.

It‘s been a snowy day here in MA (we live about 10 miles outside of Cambridge). We‘ve had about 10-11 inches of snow. It‘s supposed to stop soon but it‘s still coming down & it‘s been really windy. My kids enjoyed it for about 30 minutes. Sadly I didn‘t get to sit & read but I‘ve been audio baking: oatmeal raisin cookies & listening to “You could make this place beautiful.”

Tamra Oh, I miss snow this year. So petty! 11mo
kspenmoll We got 12 inches here in Tariffvile CT- near the airport. So beautiful our first snow of the year almost home to enjoy it. 11mo

I‘d never heard of this story until someone posted it as a “guess the book” game on instagram - and the illustrations looked amazing - so I checked to see if the library had it - and here we are! Incredible illustrations, simple but vivid text but my favourite bit was the author bio at the back! Can understand why it won the Caldecott Medal and why it was groundbreaking when it published in 1962.

A snowy day is the perfect opportunity to brew homemade mulled wine with cinnamon, star anise, and cardomom and stay indoors with a good book.

JenniferEgnor Have you ever had Glühwein? If not, try it! It‘s very similar to this. Basically, it‘s German style. Lidl and Aldi have it in stores right now. (edited) 14mo
WildAlaskaBibliophile Yes, that's what I made, but forgot to reference the German word Gluhwein in my post! Thank you for mentioning it! 🍷🥂 14mo

“The Snow Day“ by Ezra Jack Keats uses the element of color specifically cool and warm hues to explore what is happening in the story. The main character Peter is dressed in a red snowsuit and he explores what can be done in the cold winter snow which is often depicted with blues.

I enjoyed reading this book because I can relate to waking up and being excited for a snowy day, and I think lots of children feel those same emotions. It is important for children to see relatable stories, this will allow them to know characters in stories are just like them.
