This second time through the books is going well - I really can't believe I've only read them through once. The only bit I didn't like was Aragog - I have to fast forward that bit in the film. Yuck. 5🌟

Alright y‘all! Short version: despite being an interesting enough story JK continues to do multiple things that are disappointing but not terribly surprising.
Insults to Dudley looks: 8
Insults to his parents looks: 3
Dudley bad behaviour: 0
Parents bad behaviour: 8
Draco is...
mean: 3
Racist against muggleborns: 2
Makes fun of poor: 2
Snake bullies a student: 1
Ginny stands up to bullies: 1
Ugly=Bad: 7
Large = bad: 9
Large = Hagrid: 4

I do think Dumbledore is just physically incapable of giving Harry and his friends less than a billion house points at the end of every year.
Like I get that they pulled off something Absolutely terrifying and impressive but like? An award + 400 points seems a bit much. Like how is any other house supposed to compete with that?

On a more cheerful note? Lockhart is much more palatable after he explodes his own memory

I have Thoughts about this chapter y‘all; part 1
E) y‘all Tom is just the biggest prat “I‘m perfect and powerful and I speak snake so I‘m waaaaay better than everyone else” like clearly not dude? A baby beat you 🤷🏼‍♀️
F) I want to make a book of definitions on types of magic users and beat JK round the head with it. A witch, a wizard, and a sorcerer are all different magic users. They create and interact with magic Differently.

I have Thoughts about this chapter y‘all; part 1
A) the visual of Ginny at the feet of Salazar is so much better than the movie making the statue just like, a weird face
B) honestly impressive that Scrawny 12 yr old Harry was able to pick Ginny up at all
C) how did a not yet corporeal Riddle pocket Harry‘s wand?
D) y‘all Harry is So Slow on the uptake. Riddle does like an evil near monologue for five pages before Harry‘s like “you framed Hagrid!”

People always misattribute the “when in doubt, go to the library” quote to Hermione and it‘s not her who says it! It‘s Ron and it‘s about her yeah but you can‘t pretend she‘s the one who said it y‘all

Percy gives shockingly good advice considering how much of a prat he is 90% of the time

I can‘t decide who Lockhart is going to humiliate more, the poor dwarfs he roped i to dressing like Cupids or the kids they‘re going to deliver cards to

Y‘all? Rereading this as an adult it has just hit me how Fuckin Weird it is to talk calmly about cutting and stewing something that‘s clearly got moods and emotions and acne and shit. Like I know I eat animals and all but there‘s something weirder about it being a plant that has a face and can be described as “moody and secretive”

I do very much appreciate the body horror that is JKs descriptions of polyjuice potion transformations.

Personally I think Dumbledore approved Lockharts duelling club because he thought it would be funny

Madam Pomfrey is easily one of the best staff at hogwarts honestly. Right up there with McGonagall and Sprout

Like, I‘m sure, many other people when I originally read the Harry Potter series and got to this bit where Binns is talking about how Slytherin didn‘t want muggleborns in the school I was like “what an ass, muggleborns are just as good as any other magical folk” but honestly? As an adult? A thousand years ago? I can fuckin see why he thought muggleborns were untrustworthy. Muggles were running around killing basically everything magical.

Y‘all I love how JK talks about her made up sport. It‘s not complicated or confusing as much as it is simply just not well designed.

Y‘all I always forget that Colin is only a year younger than Harry is. I always think about him being much younger but he‘s not really

Malfoy is being a git for no reasons but I‘m real tempted to give him a pass on this one because at least it‘s a vaguely interesting way to make fun of someone. It‘s not original but it‘s light years better than his usual “you‘re an orphan and your friends are poor and muggleborn!”

The older I get the more I love Profesor McGonagall

#BookMail No3 is all four hardcover House Editions of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. I have no idea why the switched the covers up with the paperback version, I‘m hoping they‘re planning on alternating, which won‘t look that bad, instead of having different covers for each book, which will look a mess on the shelf! The Hufflepuff is very yellow in person, I don‘t know why it looks chartreuse. #whichhouseareyou #proudgryffinclaw
