It's been a long, busy week without much reading! So tonight, it's this gentle middle grade novel and the GBBO. And an early bedtime! 😪

ferskner I'm watching GBBO too! 5y
merelybookish @ferskner I kind of like the one episode a week. Makes me look forward to to Friday night. 5y
ferskner I'm just starting this season so I have a bit to catch up on, but I agree that weekend episodes adds something. 5y

Look at this cover art! 💜 I enjoyed the story, but didn‘t love it. A young girl is empowered to act when her family nearly falls apart after her mother suffers severe depression and her father leaves the country for work. All but one of the adult characters are underdeveloped and left me with a lot of unanswered questions. I enjoyed the historical backdrop and spotlight on early experimental (frightening) mental health treatment.

Tamra After just listening to Dead Wake, I‘ve come across two references to “the rest cure” women were subjected to. 😐 That and other awful treatment. 6y

I haven‘t been emotionally wrenched by a book in a very long time. It tells the story of a girl who has to learn to trust in her own heart and mind, and find the courage to stand up for what she knows is right.
